Just be careful, LMH, or your coat may get sucked into the cannister. My Dyson almost ate 2 of my scatter rugs LOL.

I visit Dyson WebSite and I saw that Dyson have advantage if I compare with my rainbow when you emptying them as Blitzen said " just press a button and empty the canister when I'm done with him ". With Rainbow I only hate handling after vacuuming in my flat. At house is O.K. because I have much bigger space for cleaning vacuum cleaner after use and handling with dirty water. I think I will try Dyson in my flat.

Just bought a Bissell Revolution lift off the pet hair model and it works very well and quiet, with all attachments. Price at Target $169.95. Only thing is with multiple dogs you have to empty the cannister after each use. One dog probably less emptying. Lifts off the base and you can move around with it, long cord a plus. thanks all

Blitzen- If you love a challenge, come on to our house. Plan to spend 40 hrs. a week cleaning for the first two weeks. I just tried to move 3500 sq. ft. of stuff into an 1800 sq. ft. "cottage." It doesn't fit. All closets are full. Bring your health insurance card in case you break a leg trying to climb over the boxes that impair access to any of the bedrooms and most of the basement. I did NOT get the housekeeping gene. I am neatness impaired. My hubby is as bad or worse than I am. The carpeting is new, but I can never tell if it needs vacuuming because I can't see much of it outside the living room (fairly neat) for the boxes. Everything in the kitchen cabinets is clearly visible from the living room, because we took the cabinet doors off to paint them and then lost the hardware. Turns out the hinges that fit the holes in the doors are very hard to find... The cabinets are overflowing, but not everything from my old farm kitchen with the separate pantry is unpacked yet. We have almost no furniture and there are no cabinets outside the kitchen. I can't put anything else "away" because there IS NO "AWAY!" Help me... I'm drowning in clutter! SS

I am printing this whole thread out for my better half. He refuses to buy me a Dyson due to price, but he is not factoring in how often the cheap ones he buys need to be replaced. They all start out strong, but after a few rounds of dog hair they can't even suck up a piece dirt let alone massive quantities of GSD hair, so he goes out & buys another lesser model. I think he thinks I need to improve my vacuuming skills!!! I think once he reads all your posts he will realize the vacuums he has been buying are no match for endless dog hair, & will get me a vacuum of my dreams... Is it sick to dream of a great vacuum?

I forgot to add I think after reading this he will break down & pay the price for the Dyson, but I don't see anyway of convincing him I need the $1,200. vacuum since we aren't talking about a ton of dogs (just dog hair).

A "normal" vacuum cleaner, say a mid-line Panasonic, lasts me 2-3 years. Its not worth fixing them when the plastic parts ear out. I guess the next one will be the Dyson. I have an old Rainbow, which works pretty well, but I HATE having to take it out and dump the water. If you don't dump it right away it stinks to high heaven next time I bring it out of the closet... EEEUUUWW! For big jobs, like the basement, you can't beat my 6.5 Shop Vac. Works well on a desk full of bills too ;) SS

I'm going to break down and buy the Dyson today. My vacuum has been limping through the past year. I replace vacs every 2-4 years and want the one I want NOW! I can't justify $1,200 for a Kerby or Rainbow, though they do sound nice. Just no freeakin way! I could buy a good pup for that. $400-$500 is more up my alley for a vacuum that will keep on suckin' past the first week of use. How long have you Dyson owners had yours for now????
