Von Brunhaus, Just received the Consumer Reports today - one on the headlines - VACUUMS - THE GOOD - THE BAD - and THE BEST FOR PET HAIR. Check it out I own the WINDTUNNEL 2 by Hoover and it was rated #2 = I am glad because it does a spectacular job-----love to look at the GSD hair - (enough to make a fur coat) each time.

I just went online to Dyson Factory Direct, Their page said the DC15 is still the best one. They do have a DC17 but for reasons they give said the DC15 is still the best vacuum cleaner. Until Feb.2 it is on sale for $ 509.00. No shipping charge and no tax. It normally sells for $599.oo. If anyone is interested go to google, then Dyson vacuum cleaners. It was the first sight listed. If someone knows something I don't know about this let me know as I plan to order one today. We are putting in new carpet and I want it to stay clean and dog hair free. Thanks

I had 2 Hoover Wind tunnels back to back the last 6 years. Loved em, they just didn't last. My hopes are that the Dyson does.

My Dyson Animal is probably over 3 years old and is still great..... still as strong as when I bought it and there are 7 dogs in this house!!

I have had the Dyson animal for 5 months and love it. BUT I am going to sell it on e-bay and get the rainbow because I like the fact that you can then leave it running to help circulate and clean the air. The dust here can be horrible and I hope the Rainbow will help with that. If there is a rainbow dealer here please let me know.

Renz, glad you mentioned Consumer Reports. I was in the process of ordering a Dyson 15 animal. After reading the C.R. article I am not so sure now. On this board Dyson was the overwhelming winner. I hate to throw a wrench into the gears but C.R. rates the Hoover Windtunnel #2 and the best Dyson #16.According to C.R. the Dyson DC15 animal is rated poor in Pet Hair pickup. I trust this boards experiences, but I have always relied on C.R. Tough decision.

In my 50 years of dog ownership, I've never owned a Wind Tunnel, but have owned just about every other brand of vacuum made and I would never trade the Dyson for any of them. I have the DC 15.

Okay you guys. Its about time for a new vacuum cleaner. The Panasonic doesn't want to pick up much these days and I'm sick of hauling th 6.5 hp shop-vac up and down the basement stairs. Which model number Dysons do ya'll recommend?

Ok - everyone has been very happy with the Dyson. I have NO carpeting, only terrazzo (for those not in the know - that's polished concrete with marble chips inbedded. Very popular in Florida homes). How does it do on a bare floor. My previous units took the sand and dirt and basically blew it all over the place, and really didn't pick it up. And the hair (from 5 dogs and 5 cats) meant I had to empty them all the time. The one that worked the best was a little Eureka canister that I got from my mom. I finally had to give it up when the wheels fell off and I couldn't get the bags anymore....:-( I think it was 30 years old...
