That´s it, Paul. No further reason to discuss.

You can take or leave this advice, RockyGSD, but when my husband was still pursuing LE as his chosen career, we both stopped using social media and ESPECIALLY stopped posting opinions, whatever they might be, about LE. EVEN supportive opinions. It looks bad to engage in any way in a discussion about LE work and yes, they can and do find out what an LE's spouse is saying online. Maybe it is slightly different for your case, I do not know or care to know your fiance's goals, but for someone who was being actively recruited by a government agency at one point, it does NOT look good to do any of this. I personally would not even opine on any sort of possible investigation, including this one about the dog's temperament vs genetics. Just my experience.

Well, it is not rabies that provoked the dog.

RockyGSD,

Does any of this sound familiar to you? Might help you with some insight, I am thinking.

"But dogs don't just snap like the dog in Wilton," insisted Lueders. "There has got to be something that led up to this," she said of the incident in Wilton on Monday. "I'd love to see a photo of the dog and know how it was treated. These dogs are not genetically different from any other breed. Unfortunately they are used as status symbols and they are overbred."

What does "overbred" mean in this context ?

Hundmutter

by Hundmutter on 18 November 2013 - 12:11

Probably a euphemism for "in-bred", Joan, rather than a description
of over production / bred to any ol' dog up the street ...

Sadly most people who talk via the Meedja about INbreeding / INTERbreeding /
OVERbreeding  STILL don't have a clue what those words mean, or what they would
signify if they were true.

Too many generalisations, as usual:  we still do not KNOW if this was (kept as a)
"Status Dog";  some info that it was a 'rescue' they hadn't had long, countered by
I think some neighbour said they'd had him about 4 years.  ?   If he was purely a
'baad dog' genetically, what sort of Shelter rehomes a dog with a nasty nature, any
way ?

It says the dog had been reported for being allowed to roam the neighbourhood (surprise surprise!) Roll eyes  This opens up the possibility that neighbours might have been abusive towards it when chasing it off their property, which could have caused it to turn aggressive. However, none of the complainants said the dog was aggressive, just that it was running loose.

Just guessing, though...

Sunsilver: People in Wilton go out of their way to abuse a stray pit-like dog loose in their neighborhood? Sure, of course that makes ... no sense at all, really. The dog was reported to A/C, and the town gave a temporary tag! Seems obvious to me no one followed up on that, because if they did, the dog would have proof of a rabies vaccination, and if there was proof of a rabies vaccination, then they wouldn't have needed the head.

IMHO

Hundmutter? What are you reading? The dog was two years old and they raised it as a puppy. Trying to decide how many "owners" and at which time is all smoke and mirrors because the lawyers must be calling to see who actually has some kind of insurance to make it worth their while. This woman needs medical coverage in the worst way. Let's see who gets clever.
IMHO

I think what they mean by "overbred" is there are too many of them.
And, in my opinion, there are too many Pits, Staffies, and other Bully type dogs being bred by idiots that know nothing about breeding other than let's stick a couple of dogs together and make puppies so our kids can see the miracle of birth, or, some other stupid reason! Then we can go down to the local grocery store parking lot and sell the puppies at 4-5 weeks old for $25 each.
This practice alone of taking them from their mother and siblings at too young of an age is a good portion of why we are seeing these dogs become aggressive with humans. Virtually none of the people that end up with these very young pups know how to properly raise them in order to eliminate the social aggression issues that may arise later in life.
Anyone who doesn't believe there are too many of them please go to any county or city pound and you will see that 75% or more of the dogs there are Pits/Pit mixes.
These, of course, are just those that you see. The overwhelming majority of them are euthanized. And, it doesn't matter if they are puppies, adults or elderly.
It's a sick part of our society and it needs to stop!
For those who misunderstand, I am not against these dogs at all. I've owned several of them and my dog, Brutus, that passed away last year I miss more than any of my dogs I've lost.
I always have at least one available for adoption that I have rescued.
It's a very sad thing to see what we have done to this breed! These dogs deserve way better than what the human race has done, and is doing, to them!

Beetree,

Any person who compares distrust of the pitbull breed to racism is not a valid source, in my opinion.

As suggested above, I will not comment any more on this thread so please do not address any questions towards me as I will not be replying. Feel free to PM.

Thank you

Bee, just goes to show what following link from link will get you  !
I was looking for the stuff about how awful the state of the house was;
didn't find it - but found several neighbours' various accounts of the
dog's origins.   [You win some, you lose some.]
