Hundmutter

by Hundmutter on 14 November 2013 - 12:11

Staffordshire Bull Terriers LOVE hanging off trees - we have a
real problem in UK public Parks because lots of young trees
get killed by having branches broken off, 'cos the stoopid 'boy'
owners think its clever.  (Ditto of course when that type of sub-
human has a Pit or Pit-mix).  But the 1st video was still quite funny,
for the sheer tenacity of the particular dog filmed, woolie cardi &
all !  Whether it was altogether appropriate on THIS tragic thred
is questionable, IMO.

So glad someone said it ^ besides myself, as I was thinking it!

You have a better Video?

by beetree on 14 November 2013 - 13:11

The humor in the video expressed, as juxtaposed to the thread context. How does one avoid thinking about an arm being wrenched off, hands supposedly eaten, and in the next moment want to laugh at a little dog doing that type of necessary maneuver? Really has nothing to do whether or not I can find another video. Just seemed obvious as a reaction, to me. Maybe to Hundmutter, too. I absolutely appreciate you deciding not to show an actual limb amputation by a dog, as you say they do exist, readily available to be seen by those who have the stomachs.

OP, you said: Who knows what provoked this gruesome attack from their own pet!
Some say Bad dog genes, others Bad Son/s, I suggest maybe the power or that particular dog along with it's drives and other also offer other input. I post a video of the same breed showing the power and drive but leaving out the ugly. What do others think?
For this poor woman of course this was horrendous and if anyone knows the best way to stop such an attack, please speak. I think it is an important topic for a dog forum.

You really think the video was that out of place HM/BT/Jenni? (I can delete it)

I actually found that video a disturbing reminder of the tenacity of this breed, & I had to stop myself from replacing the branch with a human limb in my mind. I didn't find it amusing at all, given the context.
Not taking sides here, just offering my take on it!

I didn't mean I thought it was inappropriate so much as I was confused by it's apparent unrelated-ness. I admit, I do not think of Pit Bulls like many do- perhaps my mind just didn't process it the way many/most would. Hanging off a tree means nothing to me- my uber-stable dogs do it all the time, dogs of different breeds. Thus, picturing a human limb in place of the branch isn't something I thought of. Again, I admit my experience with not only Pit Bulls but also tree-loving dogs in general that likely kept that out of my mind. I can see where someone leery of the breed would think that wasn't a favorable context or that it would conjure up gruesome images in many minds. Newsflash........not everyone thinks like I do! LOL

No, your video made a point without being graphic, for myself. It is the reaction with humor in them for some, that I find different from my own, is all. Any poster is entitled to their reactions. I am not suggesting more censorship at this time, at all. I just was relieved to see I was not the only one reacting with—what in my mind, is a powerful, visual montage.

When I worked as an ACO, I noticed that the APBT and Staffie, Bulldog types that came in, and were higher drive, would get so frustrated at wanting to get at the other dogs in the kennels, they would lash out at anything they could get to.. The fencing, their kennel mate, and even once a vet tech. I also have had to pick up dogs from the vet who had been adopted, were in to be altered, and when stopped from attacking other animals, bit the kennel tech.. I don't know if it's some type of displaced aggression or what. It's just something I was very careful about. I've also seen them shake and keep on worrying a dead dog, they have killed, so I could see on keeping on attacking the woman. I'm not saying all the bull dog types are aggressive dogs, as I have a Staffie that was over bred, abused and dumped starving. She has never attacked anything, in the 6 years I've owned her. She also has zero drive, ball, prey, anything other than food LOL..
I don't judge people who live at home with their parents, as if I wasn't married, I'd live at home with my mom. I enjoy being around my family. Also, they could be actually helping support her, at 65, I'm sure she wouldn't want to live alone. Or they could be leaching kids.. Who knows.. And to the kids leaving mom home with the dog, I'd feel completely safe leaving my dogs with my mom alone..  But I wouldn't leave her alone with them all loose, or if they were high drive, and not trained..  They are socialized, well loved and behaved dogs. But they are animals, and anything can happen. I never say, my dog would NEVER do that.. In certain circumstances, who really knows?
It's a tragedy that woman was mauled. I hope people will take away from this to be careful and take precautions with large powerful dogs..
