THAT is something I DO fault AKC for, yes, they are just a dog registry, not to oversee the particular breed standards or specific testing per breed...
BUT, the amount  of money they pull Iin on dogs, I think they should at least be obligated to do more check ups.
These puppy mills that are registering 10 plus litters a year, many a month, should have to have routine inspections, with at the very least, minimum standard of care.
F#$&, let a dog stand up, turn around and at least sleep in a clean dry house and have good food and water...

This was not a puppy mill situation in the sense of breeding alot of litters. It seems that they got into trouble after losing jobs, not selling the puppies they had, the numbers creep up. There were people who could have helped if they knew the situation. Dawn wasn't in this alone, her significant other was in just as deep, maybe more. She was the only one working, sometimes 16hrs, so he should have been taking care of those dogs. Very sad, hope all the dogs get good homes.

Some of these dogs do not actually belong to her and their owners are trying to get them back.

I saw Dante a few months ago. This breaks my heart!

I have previously tried helping people rehome unwanted dogs and really don't care to do it anymore.

I hear from too many people who say they can't afford to pay a fair price (or anything at all) for a good dog and yet they don't seem to realize that if they cannot even pony up $50 bucks they won't have money to pay for food and vet bills either.

It's difficult to know where to put the blame - people who see breeding dogs as a "business" (must turn a profit; doing it because they have lost thgeir jobs, etc.) rather than a hobby (for fun; expect to lose money and that's OK). Or those who want a superstar with papers and certifications for practically nothing when they can barely afford rent or feed their kids. You don't have to be rich to own a dog but c'mon! It's not easy to let a dog go when you are unable to take proper care of it but eventually you do it FOR THE LOVE OF THAT DOG if nothing else.

gsd- I was not trying to infer that this particular woman/ kennel was a puppy mill. I have no knowledge of them, or what the actual facts of this incident are,
My statement WAS tho,  in reference to the many poor dogs that truly are kept in deplorable conditions, crate on top of crate.

No problem KitKat-the conditions were definitely bad but there were no dogs in bad health yet. All of them can be immediately adopted after being spayed/neutered, they will have a much happier life. I can't say the same for the owner, this was her life, her dream; her entire world has imploded in a very public way.

Very sad indeed! At least the dogs will get good loving new homes.

Its unfortunate that these top quality dogs must be spay/neutered. A waste of the genetic pool.
