I was feeding natual balance limited ingredients becuase thier fish based food didn't have any chicken meal in it.  What other brands of dog food today don't have any chicken meal in thier "fish based" kibble?  I tried Merrick before and it has chicken meal in all thier fish based food

Horizon Pulsar salmon does not have chicken in it. I would say it's much better quality than any Merrick kibble. Orijen and Acana fish kibbles would be safe as well. Zignature trout and salmon is also safe.

Earthborn Grain Free Coastal Catch does not have chicken meal either.

I think that you will find most of the better made dog foods, especially the grain-free variety, will not mix in chicken meal with their fish formulas.
I'm surprised Merrick does.

As was noted above:
Orijen Six Fish (this is the food I use)

I am happy with Acana Pacifica and frankly all of the Acana grain frees. I also use the Annamaet products. Here is their fish formula:

@1GSD1,

I distinctly remember the Merrick Before Grain Dog product line, sold in a black bag, having a fish formula a few years back.  Was I in a test distribution zone at the time for something that now does not exist, as a current product?  I ended up returning it after a couple of feedings.  I have also used Orijen and Acana, but deliveries to stores in my area are HIGHLY unreliable, so I would be getting a bag and then possibly run out before the next shipment came in.  I know its simple, buy two bags at once, but for me dog kibble NEEDS to be easy to procure on the way home from work etc (since the Significant Other or relatives doing dog sitting need to be able to pick it up without me present at times).  I'm not marking my calendar for kibble pick up, I do enough of that for thousands of other mandatory things in life.

Here is a currently not available listing on amazon:

I  just wanted to give an update on this post that I started. As I mentioned I have had a coupe issues with Natural Balance since it was purchased by Del Monte back in May of 2013.

My cat, who had been eating NB for 5 years, has been off of the Natural Balance for about 3 weeks now. He has more energy and is acting like his normal crazy self. He also was constantly shedding and now that has mostly stopped. He just up and quit eating the NB so I trusted him that something was wrong. After spending alot of time on the internet reading about all the complaints on NB I am glad I trusted him. I almost didnt because he is known as "Mr. Picky".

I mentioned a little bit ago that Xena had a great coat on NB and was doing fine.. But with the other issues I was having I was still going to switch her off of the Natural Balance when she was done eating the bag I had just purchased. She is now shedding really bad and her once BEAUTIFUL coat is starting to look poorly. So I am going to get rid of what is left of the bag and switch her to another food. Luckily she has a cast iron stomach so I should be able to have her on a new food within a few days.

I am glad that I do not feed the NB to Ice.

I do have a claim filed with NB because of the mold found in the one bag of fish/potato and also I had a whole bunch of "unknown" kibbles found in another bag of Venison/potato. I had originally purchased the Venison/potato for Xena and then when I opened it and saw what I thought was cat food in the bag. I got rid of it and purchased the fish/potato and when I opened that bag it was moldy on the inside. I have sent these to NB and am waiting for them to have their Quality Control figure out what happened. Should HOPEFULLY hear back from NB in about 3-4 more weeks.
The scary part is that these are the LID (Limited Ingredient Diets) for dogs that have sensitive systems or allergies. (Xena does not, I just get a decent discount from work on NB so I took advantage of it). Makes me wonder if anyone that doest have a pet with a sensitive digestive system or allergies fed something like this to their dog and didnt notice the unknown kibbles and now do not know why their dog or cat is sick??
Here is a picture of the "unknown" kibbles I found in the Venison/potato NB. The BIG kibble is what it is all suppose to look like..

Ok... ranting done...lol.

I will post when and if I hear back from NB on what their Quality Control lab finds!

Forgot to mention. THANKS OGBS for that list of great foods. I wish my work sold all those!

It has been about 9 weeks or so since I mailed them the samples from the bag of Venison/potato LID formula. When I first spole to NB the Quality Control Team said it would be 4-6 weeks to get the results from the samples I sent. So I would know what the "foreign" kibble was in the bag. Well I FINALLY heard back. It was the LID chicken/pea cat food that was in the bag of Venison/potato dog food.

My cat has been eating Blue Buffalo Freedom grain free cat food and has been doing great on it. Xena and Ice are on Avoderm dog food.... grain free.

THe incident I had with NB was not the only one I know of... I have had 2 customers return bags of dog food at my work because of different looking kibbles in the food as well as they said the food didnt smell right. Wish the Natural Balance did not sell out to Del Monte.

I have not had any definite issues with NB itself, though the dog does leave it partially eaten occasionally. I once tried to change the NB dog food, and my dog ate the new food  so quickly, that it nearly died of bloat!.
