Take a look at the hips on the sire's side and also the dam. There are several dogs with HD. I believe that this is what is going to ruin the breed! What is your opinion? http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/406758.html

ouch. Guess that's why the pup is dysplastic. :(

wonder why the breeding was put together in the first place... m.

It looks like the hips are graded by a different system. Maybe a Finland System. What is the system? I see A 1/2, B 1/2, C 1/2 and D 1/2. Does anyone know what the different grades mean?

Look at the siblings too... borderlines and bad ears. http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/406755.html But one does have a Sch II (like that's good enough to justify the breeding). Some of their ancesters shouldn't have been bred period... and definitely not when dogs that also have dysplastic backgrounds! Makes me sick... but there are A LOT of sick people out there and this is just one.

Theses people should be ashame of themselves for breeding theses dogs that has hip dysplastic!!

by altostland on 02 February 2007 - 18:02

Only a scientific experiment should use dogs with hips like that in a breeding program.

altostland, I'm sorry but I strongly disagree with you... NO dog should suffer the pain of having hip dysplastic, NOT even during a scientific experiment. We no not have any right to be playing god here.

Brittany- Why do you feel it's your business to go and chastise the owners of the dogs in question here? ANY one can go in and change a pedigree including the hip ratings on this site. So no one should take any pedigree on this site as truly correct. Brittany, I truly think what you did is wrong and not fair. With all the issues you've had with people messing with Zambi's pedigree you should know better. Birdy...

Before everyone gets too excited, bear in mind that these are not unusual ratings. The system is FCI. A is roughly equivalent to normal, B to fast-normal, C to nz. The 1's and 2's represent left and right hip. While I do not support the indiscriminate use of fast-normal and nz stock, there is far more to inheritance and HD in general than an ancestors rating. Case in point: Those of you who have showline dogs likely have a descendant of VA1 Jeck vom Noricum. Jeck was nz, yet his current(final) ZW (hip production score) is considerably better than that of his half brother VA1 Zamb who was a-normal. Good breeding is not achieved by hysteria, but by careful consideration and application of proven concepts. Even then there is an element of luck and several environmental factors to consider. Best Wishes, Jonah
