Jenni78

Beautiful Thunder is looking for a home with an experienced, dog-savvy handler. He is a wonderful dog- but very strong and full of himself. He is abolutely confident and will exploit weakness or inconsistency. He was unfortunately raised in a 3 male Akita household, so there was a certain amount of chaos and the owner misunderstood who was really causing the issues. There was a very very insecure middle dog who would lash out at Thunder for Thunders' exuberance and confidence and of course Thunder would fight back. Then there was a very old, sick dog who would end up in the middle of it and guess who got blamed? I watched the dynamic there one day during a training session and the middle dog was the problem starter-not on purpose, but he was so so skittish, nervous, etc. that he just acted strangely and inappropriately and the other dogs reacted to him.

Owners moved to Germany for military reasons and left Thunder with the trainer that had been working with all of them which is how this landed on my plate. Trainer is my best friend. I have met this dog on a couple occasions and he is WOW...absolutely stunning. He has excellent obedience, far more advanced than most "normal" pets, never barks, doesn't start fights, really a nice dog and not hard to handle IF YOU ARE FAIR AND CONSISTENT. He has some personal protection potential but that wasn't taken very far because of safety as far as where he would end up. That stopped when it was determined that they were not able to keep him during the move. They moved 3 dogs to Germany and could not bring 4.

THUNDER IS IN THE NORTHEAST CORNER OF OKLAHOMA RIGHT NOW BUT CAN BE BROUGHT TO CHICAGO TOMORROW IF THAT'S CONVENIENT.

Pic does not do him justice- he was blowing coat.

Bump.

Someone, somewhere, has to know a person looking for a beautiful, healthy, nice boy like Thunder.

Yes, he is. You should see him in person. I swear, if I didn't have the ultimate Momma's Boy, Simon, I would keep Thunder in a heartbeat just to stare at him all day. He has an amazing presence about him. Super smart, very very confident, just a cool cool dog! A family with some Akita experience or just good handling skills would love this dog. How many dogs do you get at rescue price who have been in professional training for a year?

Not very many, that's for sure.  Whoever gets him is going to have one awesome dog.  My neighbor would be perfect for him, but unfortunately his wife is scared to death of dogs.

Thunder would probably charm her. He has a way with women...part of how he gets away with murder ;-)

Well, nothing bad is going to happen to him, but he's not doing much at my friend's. He needs a home. He was a pampered house dog before.

Jenni... how is he with children?  Young children... like under 3.  I may know of a wonderful home for him, but they have a toddler.  I don't know if they would be willing to consider an akita, since they have been looking at shepherds, but it sounds like a great dog for them.

Beautiful dog!  A breed I'll always want but probably never own...
