I never watched film of Drago tracking,so I cant say and also not sure if you can say 100 percent that a dog is a bad tracker because he doesnt get 95 plus tracking scores everytime,I would think thoses that trained, owned, judged him on tracks laid or thoses that watched him in person more than once would have more facts on his tracking abilitys and skills or even what type of trackers he tends to produce for that matter. Drago has a half brother also sired by Nox and that dog called Life had a tracking score of 94 in the 2013 BSP

At the risk of being accused of bashing, I will say this.  I have never seen the dog in person but spoke to someone that has. I was told that he was a screamer the times they saw him on the practice field.  So not sure why he isn't doing it now. I totally believe this person as this person was interested in a puppy off of Drago.

Also, I have noticed that as younger pups they are quite nice and people are quick to post pics of them. As they get older they seem to fade away and we see less and less pictures of them and never a video.  But one must consider who are these pups in the hands of, and what are they buying them for. That maybe why we aren't seeing or hearing much of Drago pups once they get alittle older.  Just saying.

Also there were some talking about scorebooks, when you lookup  Nox or Drago,s ped up on this sight one can view at least some of the scores earned in trials.

by zdog on 21 October 2014 - 17:10

Go watch trials, go watch training, go see dogs.  Then you won't need to see a scorebook.  46 in tracking, BFD.  It can happen.  It shouldn't, but it does.  why did it happen?  If you weren't there, you'll never know.  a dog got a 76 in protection?  WTF happened?  I don't k now, if you weren't there, neither do you.  One of the best bitches I knew here in the states scored just that.  Great freaking dog, paired with a not so talented handler who had to rely on almost everyone else to train the dog and it didn't hold up well in the trial.  Show someone a book and they might things "eeshhhh" show them the dog working and if they cared about working traits at all, they'd be drooling and opening their wallets.  The judge wanted to buy the dog and bring her back to Germany.

Last trial I worked had 2 dogs qualify for the nationals.  Nice dogs, great scores, but just nice dogs.  Nothing special about them.  Good training.  Then there are those dogs that are special in every way and also score well sometimes.  If you're scoring well at the really big competitions, I'd guess more often than not, the dog is noteworthy.

If I show you my scorebook, what does it tell you about my dogs?  About all it shows is what they go for a score, who the judge was and that I actually stepped out on a field.  Why did I get an 80 in tracking?  What did my 97 in protection look like?  Strong dog, or just a go thru the motions dog?

Your scorebook talks more than that for those that know how to read it.

How many different clubs in how many different states has your dog titled.  What is the frequency between the titles?

Who were the judges?

A dog who V's any phase multiple times under multiple judges is a noteworthy dog.

How many times have they been shown at a regional championship? National Championship?

The information is there for those that know how to utilize it.

by zdog on 21 October 2014 - 18:10

ahh, no national championships, the dog is shit right?  80, 98,97, but no regionals and only an ipo one under Bogdan Sergo.  Tell me what it means?

Didn't title a bitch till she was 7 and then took her to III, tell me about her.

You look at scorebooks, I'll continue to look at dogs and call it day.  Fair enough?

I never said scorebooks were useless, but as usual, you want to find one little nugget of something and say "see, i told you so"  kind of your MO.  You're right when you say you can read a post to mean anything you want it to, and you certainly do, over and over.

ZDog, that is exactly what I said. I DID NOT SEE THE DOG but I was referring to what I was told about his screaming. Now about the tracking score, since it was the only video posted, viewers can only base an opinion on the scores that were given. You are right, maybe he had a bad day, maybe he just doesn't track well. Who knows?  At this point, does it matter? Guess his offspring will have to speak for him as to what he produces. But like I said previously, it all depends what hands his pups are in and what they do with them. One thing we can all say for sure, is that he stamps his pups with his gorgoeus bi-color pattern. Wink Smile

ZDog,

Could you get a little more defensive?

You asked,

If I show you my scorebook, what does it tell you about my dogs?  About all it shows is what they go for a score, who the judge was and that I actually stepped out on a field.  Why did I get an 80 in tracking?  What did my 97 in protection look like?  Strong dog, or just a go thru the motions dog?

I answered it.  You don't like the answer because it's "one little nugget" well its YOUR little nugget buddy boy because you asked the question.

As to the rest of your post it's your rant and you can have it, not worth the effort to type a response too.

Why do the both of you fight? You both are right...

  • The scorebook of a dog that was seldom trialed ( maybe only once or twice ) doesn´t show much, at least I would want to see the dog in real.
  • The scorebook of a dog that was titled several times ( IPO 3, maybe at Regionals, Nationals ) does show me a lot -

and the more I´m involved the more I´m able to see (I´ll know about the clubs and the helpers, judges...) - but the "normal" buyer or breeder doesn´t know about the differences, and most of them don´t even want to know....

by mklevin on 21 October 2014 - 18:10

Like I said, he asked and I answered.  It always tells a story, not the whole story(ever) but enough to let you know if you are on the right path or not.
