Bama.. another nice vid. to watch, seems to be an eager high drive dog, loves the bitework.

by vk4gsd on 19 October 2014 - 00:10

^ i already know and mentioned the high drive, high trainablity, looks etc. that's a given.

as far as above vid, my opinion which is usually wrong so please correct;

nice type large head, drive much (as expected), dog appears to have a long back and short foreleg, comments appreciatted on that.

the second decoy in the long bite, whatever you call it, was a big imposing man that stared down the dog convincingly and threw the dog around well on the sleeve, i like that, and the dog maintained a nice full calm grip.

i like the way the dog wrapped the decoys legs up with his front legs, altho i know some ipo fanatics would prolly punish the dog severely for such.

animation of the dog was pretty to watch throughout the whole performance, as expected. doghad good drive for the blinds. the fanatics might argue the dog did not go into the empty  blinds thouroughly enough, personal taste thing, i would not hold that against the dog.

the bark was a huge dissapointment to me, regardless of everything else for a comparable but lesser dog with a bark that actually sounded like the dog meant business i would take the lesser dog.

i liked the way the ipo judges don't pat the dog at the end, not like some other venues but that is irrelavent.

so the vid was what i would expect to see in so far as drive and trainablility and grip given a great trainer and resources.

the training does not answer what i want to know in this thread - does drago pass on some dirt and shitty temperament, what i want to see in a dog.

i will never see that in 100 ipo trial vids, only people that know, know.

Just talking about a dogs barking in the blind for a little bit, sometimes I,m not sure if its the end all or tells you clearly whats going on in the dogs mind somtimes,if you watch Drago,s find in the blind in one vid that I,ve seen you will see he seems to be fine with blaring/staring the helper down in the eyes daring him to move and not barking so much,I dont have that big of problem with it, maybe some do ,but as long as his full attention is on the bad guy and ready to go thats whats important to me,which really kind of surprised me to watch since alot of Drago offspring seem to have a reputation of having leaky drive or being  very vocal dogs.

got it, geez might be over reaching but drago seems to stamp himself on progeny phenotype, based on two dogs posted. nice girl, better bark than last clip hopefully will improve with age. agiltiy in those knpv tests is the bare minimum i would expect in a pound mutt so no further comment.

again that's 2 out of 2 dogs that try control the decoy with their front legs imo, coincidence? i do like what that suggests about the dogs.

drivey, fast, intense, focussed female with nice grip and not hectic, good courage and high trainability with a willingness for the work.

so far, so good.

i wish drago never had a popular flavour of the month history that the sheeple flocked to, irrational on my part i know but i strike that gainst him and it is not his fault. if the dog was lesser known and lesser talked about i would go with it more, just my problem.

The obstacles are there to demonstrate obedience and control, any pound mutt could navigate them, but its the control that counts. Same thing with the hurdle and wall in IPO, which are the only obstacles they need to work.

I have an 8 month old Drago son that is coming along incredibly in bitework. Hostile vom Kiahaus (sp?) has done extremely well with Frank in IPO; there's a few KNPV dogs overseas, including Dark Fynn. If you look up Drago vom Patriot progeny on youtube, or go to his workingdog.eu page and click on his progeny, you can see a ton of videos. They're very strong dogs, all you have to do is youtube it and see a ton of videos.
