Don't know how this thread drifted over to Sticky-land, but hopefully it will migrate back to the Latest Posts list again....

Thanks, Admins! Rose

Morning update was excellent! Stomach still empty (means no reflux, things are moving in the right direction), small instestine less dilated and starting to contract- "fair contraction" was the chart designation. He spiked a fever at 3am but that is said to be normal upon removal of drain. The doc was happy enough to offer him food and water this morning as opposed to tonight which was the original plan. Fingers crossed it heads out the right direction.

I'm really happy with the quality of care. I have only ever talked to the surgeon; he, personally, calls me twice per day after he's examined him. I love that I'm not dealing with a constant "changing of the guard" who doesn't always know what's going on.

Bill at the hospital is a bit over $6k, he said, and previous bill from referring clinis is $1723...so....nearly $8k thus far. It's almost enough to ruin my mood....but not quite. Looks like my boy is going to be ok if tonight and tomorrow don't change directions. Thumbs Up

Great news, Jenni! Glad to hear it!

That's a very interesting contraption hanging from the ceiling. Any idea what its purpose is? I see a horse's halter, and IV tubing attached to a nearly empty IV bag. They look to be hanging from a large water bottle, the sort that you put in a water cooler!

Ss, horses are big so when they are receiving 100% of fluids+ nutrition iv, it requires a voluminous delivery system.

Come on, folks, all of us profited from Jen´s knowledge and posts during the years - she helped a lot of people - now she needs our help!

Yep, SS, Joan's got it! That is his main IV system. It costs more than it even holds, HA!  He has not yet eaten or drank (small handful of soaked pelleted feed this morning is the exception) so all nutrition and hydration is coming from that "drip." They said his hair is a bit of a challenge with the cords, which are like springy phone cords (for those of you who remember phone cords) , hahaha. The smaller one next to it with a bag over it is an antibiotic or anti-endotoxin (to prevent him from foundering due to the release of toxins into the bloodstream) and is photosensitive- he swears it's not vodka. Tongue Smile

Susie, you're very kind.

Blitzen, he is doing very well. Makes me very happy I made this [totally impractical and foolish financial]  decision. Just seemed morally wrong for him to pay the ultimate price for bad finances, when it was not something inherently wrong with his body. The surgeon has said several times "he is one tough dude."
