OK, weird as this sounds, it IS a serious question...is there any significance to finding a dead but completely intact, unmutilated, no-visible-sign-of-cause-of-death wild rabbit on the main steps used to enter and exit my house, which happen to be INSIDE the two-car garage attached to my house? It wasn't there Sunday night when I came in from feeding the cows; I don't have cats, nor can the cats from the neighboring farms get into the garage, so that's out. It's definitely not the work of either of my dogs, as they haven't been in or through the garage in the past 24 hours. I'm not aware of having done anything to piss anyone off around here, but let's face it--I'm not exactly known for being subtle, so it's certainly possible I could have done so and not yet know about it. I suppose the rabbit itself could have snuck into the garage while I had one of the doors opened, though I can't imagine why it would, but even if it did, why wouldn't it have just scampered out the door the next time I had one open, which is at least once a day...

Very bizarre thing to find on my doorstep, that's for sure. Just wondering if anyone knew of any rural 'custom' involving this particular scenario, in an attempt to send any particular message...

Some wild animals get close to humans when they are in trouble, feel they can't defend themselves against predation or an outside threat they happen to fear more than us. Also if they have been poisoned or are sick...
Otter uses the humans to catch a boat ride away from the orcas that just killed it's young.

What Lineage suggests is a possibility,  I had an urban Red Fox

turn up on my doorstep after it was hit by  a car ...

This rabbit couldn't  have been hanging around in your garage

unnoticed for a couple of days, looking for a quiet place to die

from something internal, maybe ?

I probably will never know the story behind how that rabbit ended up on my doorstep inside my garage...just wondered if there was any 'backwoods' tradition involving such as a signal of something or other. Thank you for the suggestions, though--either scenario is as plausible as any other!  I'm just glad I saw it, and disposed of it, before the dogs did...at best, they would have made a mess of it, and at worst, it could certainly have incited a squabble between them, and I wasn't in the mood for either one of those!

RIP little bunny...hope I didn't scare you to death.
