DEAR SPOOK: I AM WRITING THIS IN YOUR FAVORITE STYLE, CAPITAL LETTERS. SO THAT IT CAN SINK INTO YOU BRAIN QUICKER AND BETTER. THIS THREAD STARTED OUT ABOUT SOMEONE WANTING A PET QUALITY DOG. I SUGGESTED THEY COULD DO JUST FINE BY GOING TO THE LOCAL SHELTERS AND ASSESSING THE DOGS THERE, FOR A FAMILY PET. THE NEXT THING I KNOW, YOU HAVE CHANGED IT AROUND TO SOMEONE LOOKING FOR A WUSV CHAMPION, AND REFERRING BACK TO THE PREVIOUS CRATE DISCUSSION. SO FOR YOU AND VERONICA (who I like a lot), I WILL CLARIFY THIS ONE MORE TIME. WE ARE TALKING ABOUT A FAMILY PET, NOT A SCHUTZUND TITLED DOG OR A WUSV CHAMPION. I WILL ADD, SO THAT SPOOK CAN HAVE SOMETHING TO LASH OUT BACK AT ME WITH, THERE ARE DOGS IN THE SHELTERS THAT COULD DO SCHUTZUND I AT LEAST. I HAVE A MALE ROTT HERE, OBTAINED FROM THE HILLSBORO, OHIO ANIMAL SHELTER, OBEDIENCE TRAINED BY ME BUT NOT SPORT TRAINED OR BITE TRAINED, THAT I COULD EASILY DO SCHUTZUND I WITH, IF I WAS SO INCLINED. UNFORTUNATELY, WE WILL NEVER KNOW BECAUSE I DO NOT DO SCHUTZUND, SO HAVE FUN WITH THAT CLAIM BY TELLING ME HOW EASY IT IS TO MAKE A CLAIM I CAN NOT PROVE. SORT OF LIKE CLAIMS THAT GOOD POUND DOGS ARE ONE IN A MILLION, YET SEVERAL PEOPLE ON THIS THREAD (WHO HAVE NOT ASSESSED ANYWHERE NEAR A MILLION POUND DOGS) CLAIM TO HAVE OBTAINED WONDERFUL PETS FROM POUNDS. I HAVE, IN MY LIFE, PROBABLY CHECKED OUT APPROXIMATELY ONE HUNDRED POUND DOGS, AND HAVE OBTAINED APPROXIMATELY TWELVE OF THEM, WITH TEN OF THEM TURNING OUT TO BE ABSOLUTELY FINE FAMILY PETS, WITHOUT ANY HEALTH PROBLEMS, OTHER THAN THE NORMAL WORMS, EXCEPT THAT I DID GET ONE DOG WITH "KENNEL COUGH". IT WAS NOT THAT BIG A PROBLEM. EVERYONE OF THE POUND DOGS I HAVE OWNED, HAVE BEEN HARDY AND RATHER INTELLIGENT, AS FAR AS DOGS GO. YES, I HAVE ALSO SPENT HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS (AND IN THREE CASES, THOUSANDS) ON PUREBRED, PAPERED DOGS, AND THEY WERE NO HARDIER NOR SMARTER, BUT THEY DID COME WITH PAPERS, WHICH MAKES IT EASIER TO SELL THEIR PUPPIES. THAT SEEMS TO BE THE BIGGEST DIFFERENCE I CAN POINT OUT BETWEEN THE TWO. SO AGAIN, WE ARE TALKING PETS HERE, BOYS AND GIRLS. AND AS FOR YOU SPOOK; DON'T GO TO SHELTERS ANYMORE PLEASE. I SHUTTER TO THINK ABOUT THOSE POUND PUPPIES GOING FROM A 6 BY 12 CAGE, INTO A CRATE. DOESN'T SEEM LIKE I HAVE "RUN AND HID" ON THE CRATE THINGY, DOES IT, spook ole boy:), I DON'T RUN AND I DON'T HIDE. I AM PROBABLY THE ONLY ONE ON THIS WEB SITE THAT HAS POSTED MY NAME, ADDRESS, PHONE NUMBER AND BIO. I HAVE SEEN NOTHING FROM YOU HERE, EXCEPT spookiness and hiding. I HAVE RECEIVED A FEW EMAILS TELLING ME TO IGNORE YOU, AS YOU ARE LIKE FUNKMAN (YOUR HERO), A HIT AND RUN ARTIST, WHO TALKS A GOOD GAME BUT HIDES WHO YOU ARE AND PICKS FIGHTS ABOUT JUST ABOUT EVERYTHING, USUALLY WITH GIRLS. I BELEIVE I WILL TAKE THEIR ADVICE. YOU AIN'T WORTH THE EFFORT. NOW, TAKE YOU LAST SHOT. I WIN :)

AKVeronica, If it wasn't so damn cold up there, I would bring a dog and visit you. I also have a couple of spare bedrooms (thank God those two sons of mine have finally moved out:), and you are welcome to come to my little ten acre place and train outside, in the sun. I used to be a decent (actually GREAT:) agitator (I guess schutzund people call them "helpers"). I volunteered back in 2000 to be attacked by a Cleveland Police canine dog, during a demonstration for the "higher ups", and they were amazed that I did not want to use the sleeve. I just put on six sweatshirts and a jacket, and fed my arm to the dog as it was attacking me from the long send. Wasn't bad at all, and a lot more realistic for the viewers. Back in the day, when I was training for bite work, I rarely used the sleeve (there was that Great Dane that I told you about previously, but I digress). I always let the dogs bite wherever they wanted. The closest piece of meat. You just had to MAKE SURE, the closest piece of meat wasn't a piece of meat you were fond of ;-), and you had to make sure that the dog knew how to out, before you did that:) I have a high pain threshold, I guess that comes from participating in the threads on this web site :)

Doesn't anyone on this board live in Bermuda?

DRFNO, Did you write this or not? 'What is the difference in an import GSD that cost $2000.00 and an import GSD at the shelter that originally cost $2000.00 but is now $45.00. The difference is $1,955.00.' Please, give me the solid info that you have showing someone dumped off a dog they paid $2000 for. You make up crap trying to prove a point. Are you really echomuddles?

Spook101, this happens everyday somewhere. They get sick of the dog, owner dies, dog bites person and it's persons fault, but they still take the dog in blaming him instead of the stupid neighbor kid who jumped the fence. Thank God the neighbor was kind enough not to call animal control and have it put down. Could give hundreds of reasons. I have seen dogs surrendered papers and all. Dogs with training and titles, usually not to the pound but a breed rescue. $150 from this particual rescue for most dogs so lets call it fair at $1850.00 in price difference, plus dog is trained, housebroke and you already know what it's issues are after they test it for everything they can think of. Dogs is heartworm tested and up to date on all shots, no puppy stuff to deal with and leaves walking nicely on leash at a heel.

I'll bet you that the V rated bitch and the Sch III bitch both taken out of rescues in Texas cost the original buyers a few bucks. I'd also bet you that of the 250 plus dogs sitting in Camp Wolfgang, you could find more than a few that were bred by one of more of the big name breeders in that state. I'm talking breeders who routinely get 2K or more for an 8 week old puppy. Too bad Hodie isn't posting here anymore; she has taken in and been asked to take in more than a few dogs bred by some of the big players who would not take back them back. Those dogs were not cheap by any means and some of the excuses offered by their owners for giving them up are pretty lame. I doubt that quality GSD's make up a high percentage of the rescue population, but there are still some put there by owners who paid a a good price for them originally.

You are invited Blitzen. It is fun here in the summer also. Bring the family and a couple of dogs. Thank you also for having an opposite opinion of mine but keeping cool to debate with you. I respect you for that. Veronica
