I have 2 German Shepherds (male and female) and my wife can't control female. She's a German import from Kirschenstal Kennels. I know it's my wife because as soon as wife see's another dog wife panics. When I imported her from Germany, she had to be quarantined for 90 days. Could that be a problem? We're getting older now and I'm
trying to help wife. Should I send wife and dog to a trainer? We did that before but didn't like trainer. She is 5 now and a beautiful dog. She really loves my wife and sleeps in her bed and wants to be with her all the time. Any help would be appeciated.

thank you,
ed

Where are you located?

Just from what you've said...It seems as though the female dog loves your wife but doesn't respect her...(hopefully that makes sense to you)...
I think it would do a world of good if your wife would do Ob with the female dog...

Yes , you* , your wife* and the dog* need to work with , not a so called trainer , but a person experienced in human . canine relationships. IMOp , this is more than just a 'trainer'.
I can say 2 things to you on the QT : First - one needs to know from where the aggression within the dog arises. Secondly , no matter if the dog is truly aggressive to other dogs.. how you conduct yourself , in and out of the presence of your dog and another dog either contributes to the aggression making it a worse situation or it will makes the encounter a better encounter.
Ed i could give you a week seminar on this topic .... you and the dog need guidance.
Ed .. With respect to you and kindness in this statement I say : the answer to your question is evident in the fact that you have to ask the question ,

And with a competent trainer that understands German Shepherds!

Dogs are very good at picking up emotions. When the dog senses your wife's fear of the approaching dog, it feels it has to protect your wife, and tries to go after the other dog.

If your wife understood how to be the leader, and be calm rather than fearful, the dog would eventually realize she had things under control, and there is no need to go after the approaching dog!

How your wife walks the dog has a good deal to do with how the dog reacts. If the dog is out in front, it feels it has to take control of the situation. If it's by her side, it knows that she's in charge. (Throw the damn Flexi in the garbage, if you use one...)
