I was basing my questions on this statement:

Within a week that the dog got here I took her to be spayed at my Vet's office and found out that she had chronic anaplasmosis

Assuming this to be true IMO it doesn't really matter what the emails say. The dog was sick before she was sold so they should be falling all over themselves apologizing that they sold a sick dog.  They should offer a few options:  offer to take the dog back and refund her money - because it was their mistake;  or they could offer to pay the vet bills at least above and beyond the standard vet spaying fee and they should reduce the sale price significantly or give them the dog for free because she sick especially if this condition is not curable.  if it is curable then they should pay for the cure.  If you pay for a healthy animal you should get one one way or another.  But if the dog was bought "as is" then this is a moot point:) in this matter.

So you have said.  The communications between you and Taunya please?

Too many questions without that.

I can understand folks wanting to be loyal to breeders who have given them wonderful dogs but that does not make up for a "bad deal" that happen from time to time.  I'm certainly not going to write this breeder off because clearly there are far more happy customers then unhappy ones and I know the old saying you can't make all the people happy all the time but if you're a breeder you sure should try:)

There are a lot of detail to this situation that would be good to know before giving this experience much weight when it comes to tipping the scale in favor for or against this breeder. But this is a big deal:

After arguing I got some of my vet bills paid but not even half, and got a small amount of money refunded (1k to be exact)  and now my dog is suffering from acute renal failure and can barely take care of herself let alone protect my family so you tell me people do you think  I got a good deal !

IMO if 1K is a small amount of money then this is far more than  just a deal going bad  as snajper69 said

Susan (JustCurious),

It is very possible that the dog had anaplasmosis before the dog was shipped, but, it is also very possible that the dog did not show any signs of it. A dog (or cat) can have this disease (like so many others) and the animal will not show any signs of it because the immune system is controlling it. This is very common in healthy cats and dogs. When the animal is under extreme stress (for example, being shipped from Slovakia to the U.S. and then in a strange home) the immune system is overcome by the disease.

Knowing the reputation of Taunya and Josef I believe that there is more to this story than what has been proffered by "dawngypsygirl" so far. They would not, knowingly, send someone a sick dog.

One of the things that I am quite curious about is why anyone would take a dog to be spayed one week after it was shipped from a foreign country? Sounds like a recipe for disaster to me. The dog needs to settle in to its new home.  With a German Shepherd it takes approximately two months for an adult dog to feel comfortable with its new home and new pack. I wouldn't do this to an animal that I found next door let alone to an animal that has travelled that far to a strange place, with strange people, that do not know its language.

I have no doubt that Eurosport K9 sold what they believed to be a healthy dog and am not even thinking that they knowingly sold a sick dog.  Regarding spay so soon wouldn't the Vet make this call?

The reason I'm asking all these questions is I'll be buying a GSD sometime within the next year and I would hate to make this sort of "bad deal" and would love to learn how to prevent it from happening.  This is the main reason I'm on this forum so personally I welcome this conversation.  I do understand that fact gathering requires a lot of shifting through personal opinion. so will be withholding all judgments until it has been fully discussed:)

I'd like to comment on this statement"

"SICK DOG.... Yes I was lied to about it being vet checked.  Within a week that the dog got here I took her to be spayed at my Vet's office and found out that she had chronic anaplasmosis that would have been picked up by any blood work"

Having 4 dogs all positive for anaplasmosis, one being chronic, I have some insite into this illness. First, anaplasmosis will NOT be picked up by "any blood work."  It has to be specifically tested for..Now aday we have the SNAP 4 test, which includes, hw, lyme, canine erhlichia and equine erhlichia aka anaplasmosis.

Unless the dog was showing symptoms there would be no way without testing, you would know the dog was sick.

Unfortunately alot of times, dogs go right into renal failure without showing prior symptoms which then become serious.

I'm sorry your dog is ill, however, IF the dog was not tested specifically for anaplasmosis (which is a tick disease) , and was not showing any symptoms,,I wouldn't be blaming the breeder.

Just my 2 cents

Diane

No slight on you, justcurious (Susan).

You're doing your homework.  This dawngypsygirl has posted saying that the dog was sick.  No offer of proof.  Refuses to post communications.  Offer of proof.

Something smells a bit on this one and iit doesn't seem to be on the breeder end.

I agree with JustLurking;

"I'd post the transcripts but I think Tauyna and Josef would be mortified by the way I was talked to and treated."

Would said Tauyna and Josef not know how they allegedly treated this person?

Why would someone come to a public place, level accusations and then worry about how the breeder will feel if the communication was made public.

I also believe that if this dog was indeed sick,  that there is a good chance that Eurosport were not aware. Clearly there were no obvious outward signs as this was only discovered when the dog was taken to be spayed.

It's unfortunate, and i feel sorry for the owner of this dog and the dog too, however i do not believe a sick dog was knowingly sold. The transcripts will reveal more i'm sure.

A pre-shipping health inspection for a certificate virtually *never* includes any blood work unless someone has specifically requested the dog have that workup done, so even if anaplasmosis was easily detectable on a basic blood screening (it isn't easily detected that way, especially these days with automated readings instead of a human reading the slides) this condition wouldn't have been discovered during the pre-shipping health inspection.  I do feel badly for the poster whose dog was so affected, as it's certainly not what one would expect to deal with when getting a new dog...BUT if I were going to have a dog imported and expected guaranteed health beyond what a standard health certificate ensures, I'd be asking to have a full blood screen, including a tick panel, run before I agreed to purchase the dog.
