Withers higher than back, not roached, but if the dog is not trained and fall down on fronthand she still can show a roached back while moving.

Can't see much wrong with this dog, picture not to clear along topline. This dog is most definately not roached in this picture, but it is not poker straight or "level".Maybe a bit heavy looking on the underline but looks very nice, judging by the picture.  liz

Munky, I'm talking about a dog that will allow it's spine to be manipulated into a roach and then stand still holding that pose.  That's hardly a natural stance for any dog. And I did say that SOME dogs do have more flexible spines than others, didn't I? Why and it is correct for the breed? Those are the questions I'm trying to get answered, not whether ot not it's possible. We already know it is. The last dog I had that arched its spine and held that pose had a kidney infection.

Not sure what is meant by "falling down on fronthand". Please explain. It might be what we refer to as a dog that does not have a balanced gait, more rear angulation than shoulder layback, more drive than reach. It's a compensation gait.

4pack, pic is photoshopped to hide the roach.

NOBODY ON THIS THREAD HAS SAID IT IS CORRECT FOR A GSD TO HAVE A TRUE ROACH BACK.ALL MY DOGS HAVE VERY STRONG HARD BACKS AND BELIEVE ME THEY DO WORK ALL DAY.EVEN WHEN WE HAD THE OLD ENGLISH STYLE THEY WORKED TOO. LIZ

This is the same dog and how she stood on her own. The last showline I owned and probably ever will own. Poor girl, I always felt sorry for the body she was born with. Maybe it was a good thing she died before seeing 7 yrs old. So you see Munky, I was a showline supporter once upon a time. I "learned" and decided WL are a better bet when you actually want to work a dog and see it succeed with. On another note, I'm not sure how profesional show handlers are doing the breed favors, hiding faults and postioning dogs in not their natural state.

4 PACK

FUNKY'S GERMAN SHOWLINES DO WORK. EVERY DAY OF THE WEEK EVERY WEEK OF THE YEAR. NOT FOR POINTS, NOT FOR SPORT, NOT FOR TITLES. BUT FOR A LIVING.  THAT'S WHAT THE WORD WORK MEANS TO ME----SOMETHING YOU DO EVERY DAY. THEY WORK LIVESTOCK DAILY. TRUE WORKING DOGS.  NO TITLES TO SHOW FOR IT, JUST AN HONEST DAYS WORK.

GERMAN SHOWLINES-------BRAINS AND BEAUTY

NOW THIS IS GETTING VERY BORING. WHY DONT WE ALL JUST ENJOY OUR DOGS.

AND JUST INCASE YOU ARE WONDERING HOW I KNOW THIS--------SHE IS MY SISTER. OUR GRANDFATHER, FATHER AND NOW OUR GENERATION HAVE USED GSD TO WORK THE LIVESTOCK. STARTING WITH THE SO CALLED BRITTISH ALSATIAN AND NOW THE GERMAN SHOWLINE

DO YOU NOT CONSIDER THAT TO BE WORK

This isn't about work (above bitch was a Sch3), it's a thread about backs.  Any opinions on the last pic. Roach or rounded back?

Brady Bee, don't be silly naw. NO dog can work without a proven title. Gezzzzz. Git with the program.

I mean really, look what herding dogs need to do now adays to get a herding title. Maybe 14 -20 sheep, one corral on 1/4 acre. LMAO

How about bringing those titled dogs to my property.. 250 bull head, 513 acres, 12 marked bull corrals 6 yearling corrals and we have a run for that title.  LMAO

There is NO comparison to a true herding dog's everyday life on hundreds of acres, hundreds of head verses some romper-room title.

These people who say you need a title to prove worth .. is all BS.  And they know it.  What would that title be worth to me or my dogs ?  Think about it.
