Our breed, here within Great Britain, has been presented with a challenge by the Kennel Club. We should rise to that challenge, and recognise the serious restrictions the Kennel Club have placed on our breeds’ progress, by refusing to accept many requests and suggestions from our breed representatives over many years. Especially regarding compulsory health screening. We can now be free of these shackles, and actually make the progress that many of us have only dreamed of, a reality. We must not miss this genuine opportunity; it would be a tragedy for our wonderful breed.

I feel sure that we will be given all the help, advice and support we need, from the many talented and dedicated people we have within our breed, and from the SV/WUSV, and from many other GSD and canine organisations around the world.

CAN WE DO IT? - YES WE CAN!

by Jean Duff on 21 November 2009 - 11:11

I think in reality we are all saying the same thing;  ie the KC does not co-operate with the major GSD clubs but rather sticks its head in the ground in the hope that we will do their thing eventually.  We all know in our heart of hearts that we will not stick to antiquated and ineffective restrictions on our breed moving forward in line with the SV Germany etc.  BUT we must be careful how we proceed;  if we break away tomorrow in reality what a mess we might be in;  planning or contingency plans should be in place in case this is ever required.  However, if we can get the KC to acquiese or at least agree to a start by implementing some of our conditions then perhaps we should not be doing anything in haste at the moment.  Their questions are not relevant really what they are talking about is superficial things like double handling, (well we can fix this if we want to);  loose hocks (not as loose as they were in the 60's when we started - so there has been a big improvement);  backlines (well there was a time when they were high but this has gone);  so really what are they asking for.  Most of their questions have already been taken care of and will continue to be by any decent judges.  So let's fill in their silly questionnaire and show support to our negotiators and keep things moving.  It will not hurt.  Because if we do not show solidarity now we never will.

WHAT HOPE IS THERE FOR THE GSD WHEN YOU LOT CANNOT DO ONE FUNDAMENTAL THING.

why is it that when there is a good dbate going on in a thread, certain people come on and spoil it.come on BAZZA,PENCIL,JJ,TROTTERS 123 AND JAGO,if yu cannot make constructive comments  please DO NOT come on this thread again.why do yu all have to be rude and try to shit stir.if yu have problems with certain people please contact them by other methods .i attended the meeting on Nov.21st.the meeting went very calmly thank yu very much.yes mr.payne was there and yes he did speak several times as did other people.his suggestion was the best idea i,d heard at the meeting.i,m all in favour of the approach to the kc for MANDATORY HEALTH TESTS.i dont want to break away from the KC,but do like the idea of other type of shows run by a joint gsd venture.i feel that the main issue of the KCis the double handling and not anything to do with health issues,as the 2 health issues stated ie.loose hocks and exgarrated backlines could be caused on the adult dogs by the way we handle the dogs.IMO excessive pulling into the collars distorts the backline and causes the hocks to go every which way.my animal is sound but if she spies a squirrel or rabbit on walks she starts to dig in her effort to get to said prey and then she looks unsound behind WHICH SHE MOST CERTAINLY IS NOT.i personally also think that the questionnaire could have been designed a bit better with a space for comment immediately underneath the question ,so i could put my personal views on the subject in question instead of on the reverse.David ,i applaud yu on your calm demenour at the meeting and i thank yu for your marvellous suggestion.i know yu have the breeds best interest at heart, even tho i have critise yu on some of the other threads.please gsd people we only want constructive comments,NOT SLAGGING OFF COMMENTS.we all have to work together in this and that includes working towards a compromise with the KC,even if it means NO MORE DOUBLE HANDLING.good luck to the GSDP.I ALSO THINK THE POSTS BY AILEEN AND JEAN WERE WELL THOUGHT OUT AND PRESENTED.WELL DONE LADIES.MY ENGLISH I KNOW IS NOT TO COULD BUT THAT WAS NOT MY FORTE AT SCHOOL.....Carole Spelman.RHEINMEISTER GSDS.it should read NOT TOO GOOD.blimey my typing is bad also.sorry.

Good post, noddi.   Absolutely right; if one has the breeds' interest at heart, it doesn't matter a damn who comes up with the ideas... if they're good ones, grab them and be thankful.  Nobody is liked by everybody, that's life!

by bazza on 26 November 2009 - 09:11

Noddi, fully understand where you are coming from, but i believe in telling it as it is, truthfully and honestly. NO SHIT STIRRING, NO HIDDEN AGENDAS!!!!!   I could not care less who comes up with an idea as long as it works i am happy,  but in a few years time when you all hear the famous last words  " I was instumental in......."  maybe you will remember this thread.  I think a lot reading the so called  rude and shit stirring posts totally agree, but just do not want to admit it for whatever reasons.  In fact i do not THINK  they agree  I  KNOW  they agree!!!  Seems to me some here have a very very short memory,  i most certainly do not!!!

by noddi on 26 November 2009 - 12:11

bazza,i also believe in telling it as it is.Maybe certain people on the german side are a bit forward in coming forward, but at the ende of the day,as i see it,we may need these people to say it as it is to the power that be at this moment in time ie.THE KC.i certainly agree that all they appear to care about is losing their kudos.hopefully the APGAW report will make them sit up and rethink their views and no longer accept reg.of puppies of all breeds ,who parents haven,t been health tested, but i wouldnt hold my breath.i certainly want to continue showing at KC shows in the future.i think Jean Duff and Aileen Matheiseens  posts see it as i do.IMO.the majority of gsd exhibitorsare split into 4 CAMPS.........ALSATIANISTS,MIDDLE OF ROAD,GERMANIC(who prefer to show their dogs at a more leisurely pace, and not as the really germanic exhibitors)and then THE DIRE HARD GERMANIC.these are the ones who do all the manwork, etc.i have no objections to this section as i was one in the past when i was younger.but as Aileen said as long as everyone is allowed to show at the german type shows without having to go thro the manwork ,most will be happy and Jean is right if we break away from the KC,THE alsantianists would be very happy and the public will still buy KC,reg.pups regardless as in my view, not many read up on their chosen breed first.PLEASE LETS SEE HOW THE QUESTIONAIRE AND THE PARTNERSHIP GO DOWN WITH THE KC.sorry for my ramblings.Carole.

by bazza on 26 November 2009 - 18:11

Carole i couldn't agree more especially with your last sentence, i truly hope for the first time in my 50+ years i see action instead of a load of talk talk. How long has this " battle " with the kennel club been going on? I do pray that for once instead of mamby pambying to the KC something really takes off, personally i can't see it and we will still be talking in another 10 years. The kc in this country will NEVER go along with all we want, NEVER. I hope i am wrong genuinely!!  And i do not think you are rambling, just expressing an opinion.
