The German Shepherd Dog (UK)
"RISING TO THE CHALLENGE"
by David Payne

I have based my proposals mainly on the Dutch System and discussions I have had with Peter Van Oirschot over several years, and discussions I have had with numerous other people involved in our GSD breed both here in the UK and overseas.

The form introduction says "The GSD Partenership has been asked to respond to KC on the following health issues......"
And the first 2 questions are about double handling. Double handling is NOT a health issue.

Zac, I couldnt agree with you more, but the KC listed it as one of their Health issue concerns in their letter to Breed Clubs  dated  23rd July. The fact is the KC once again wanted to make Double Handling an issue and therefore made it into a Health issue and in doing so insisted it be one of the four things they wanted the GSDP to address before the KC would
consider reallocating CC's in 2012.

Look, what you all have to realise is that until we prove that we have addressed the issues highlighted by the KC in their letter of 23rd July, the threat of  non allocation of CC's for 2012 continues to hang over us. Now it might be, that many of us dont give a toss whether the KC deem to give us CC's in 2012 (or indeed ever again) or not, but democracy dictates that we need to get a majority decision on this. Hence the reason for the questionaire. Obviously once the wishes of the majority become clearer, as should be seen somewhere within the first 30mins of the Open Forum, we can all get down to discussing what are next steps should be.

Oh, by the way, if you really want to see the True Colours of how the KC machine operates go buy this weeks Dog World Newspaper, another pre-emptive strike on behalf of the KC only this time they are even saving themselves the costs of stationary and postage by sending an Open Letter to the Dog Press rather than the letter to the Breed clubs. Hardly the way to run an effective business eh and certainly not a way to try to make friends and influence people. You really will need to read it to believe it.

I have read the newspaper Sue and I have to say after reading it, the KC has only cemented in my mind that they are a joke on so many levels. To anyone who hasnt read the said article I suggest you do. It really is an eye opener.

‘until we prove that we have addressed the issues highlighted by the KC in their letter of 23rd July’

NO. We do not have to ‘prove’ anything of the sort. The response to a letter goes like this, ‘Thank you for your letter of 23rd July. We think your issues are irrelevant. This is what we think and these are the issues important to us….’

I don’t want to quarrel with anyone but please don’t box yourselves in like this. To enter into a debate with the KC about double handling or whatever would be a huge distraction from the real issues.

by Jago on 17 November 2009 - 18:11

Well said Peterlee, double handling should be the least of their issues IMO.

Susie, i'm afraid that must agree with Peterlee, if the KC told you to put your hand in the fire, you would have a ready answer for them, and i'm sure every person on this board knows what it would be, two words, one beginning with F and the other ending in F.

The KC are constantly showing, in their reluctance to adhere to previous agreements made with the GSD partnership, that they are without honour, how are we to trust them when  the keep treating us like the proverbial yapping dog under the dinner table, they throw us a small bone to shut us up.
I have long been an advocate of the GSD fraternity being self governed, so i would be in favour of telling them what  I think you would tell them if they asked you to put your hand in the fire.

  Regards.
  Paul.

Can I suggest that people cross out questions 1 to 5 of the questionnaire and concentrate their answer on ‘comments’ in the sense of how you would wish to reply to the KC? I know that many of you will have opinions on double handling, over angulation or whatever but if you go down that road you will be side tracked from the real issue. That issue is probably what paulie says, namely, should the KC be told where to go or not? And if they are told where to go then where do we go from there?

Jago, I have to concur to your views on the many levels of comedy the KC rise to, however I dont know what Newspaper article you have read but it wont be the one I am now referring to as this is only just going to print today and wont be on sale until this Thursday/Friday and the article in question is another KC statement contrived to once again pre-empt the BC and Open Forum meetings due to take place this Saturday 21st Nov (much the same as the Kc issued their previous threats to the GSD Community via the letter they sent to Clubs just 24hrs before the last BC Meeting).

Peterlee, I also have no wish to quarrel with anyone, there has never been a more innapropriate time than this for the GSD Fraternity to be seen quarreling amoungst themselves. If ever there was a need for unity not division it is now, but please do try to understand the principles of Democracy. It appears to me that you and I are both singing from the same hymn sheet., for example am I right to presume that you like myself do not consider Double Handling to be a Health issue, yet unfortunately and somewhat misguidedly the KC do. Am I right to presume that you as well as I do not consider we have a problem with exaggerated toplines, again the KC think we do and so on and so forth. It is therefore imperrative that  democracy is allowed to prevail, the answers to these KC questions MUST COME from all those GSD enthusiasts interested enough to give their opinions and not just on the premise of those few GSDP delegates. And I for one applaud the GSDP for taking this democratic step forward of including the grass roots rather than just the usual elite few.

Collectively we all register the same breed, exhibit at the same shows, under the same rules as each other and so collectively we should all be consulted to give our Collective Responses to these KC concerns. IF we ALL THINK THE KC are making a mountain out of a molehill then we need to say so COLLECTIVELY, If the majority DO NOT believe double handling is a problem and have no intention of ceasing to do it, then they need to say so COLLECTIVELY. This is called COLLECTIVE RESPONSIBILITY and whatever the MAJORITY decide is what the GSDP will go back to the KC with and if that Collective Decision means the KC decide NOT TO ALLOCATE CC';s to the breed in 2012 then so be it, but at least it was based on the Collective Majority opinions of the GSD Fraternity.

I find the need and reasons for this questionaire and Open Forum to be so fundamentally simple, yet so many seem unable to grasp it. If it wasnt so utterly serious and potentially turn out to be one of the biggest decisions the GSD Fraternity will ever have made, I would find it somewhat amusing that so many are still unable to see the need for this democatic approach to answering the KC's questions. In a nutshell, lets just answere the bloody questions the KC have asked so that we can quickly move onto the REAL ISSUES that we find important to our breed.

Best Regards
Sue

Paulie, et all,
After reading your posts which had appeared whilst I was writing my last reply and so I ONLY got to read them after submitting my last post (and not before) I would now like to  ADD the following :-

THAT IF THE MAJORITY COLLECTIVELY WANT TO TELL THE KC TO (F first letter and F last letter) THEN YOU CAN ALL COLLECTIVELY DO SO ON THE QUESTIONAIRE AS PETERLEE HAS SUGGESTED. BY THE SAME TOKEN PLACING A TICK IN THE 'NO' box to every question WILL SURMOUNT TO THE SAME THING!!!!!!!!!!!!! Though I strongly advocate you a tick the 'YES' box FOR QUESTION 2.   :-))

All the best
Sue x
