Sorry gents. This is about my 18 mo boxer. I thought this is the board that may give me the right answers. This guy spends a lot of time lately grooming his male organ and his front paws. He can do this for 15 - 30 mins at a stretch and is very vocal. You can literally hear him slurp. Its very disturbing at 3 am every morning. Is this a sign of something wrong or is it something they usually indulge in.

I had a golden ret mix that I brought home from the pound. She was most likely the best dog ever....lol One day just joking around and sitting on the other side of the room I told her to get me the remote, sure enough, she brought it over to me,Thought it might be a fluke but she continued to do it.Pretty cool dog.The only problem she had is she would like herseld raw,I mean just go and go and go,to the point it was past the point of just licking, she was really hurting herself.Tried wraping it she would tear it off,the vet if I recall correctly said it was some form of nervous disorder,he put her on some meds9don't recall what) and to the best of my knowledge she was fine after that. (she was placed in a home) I don't know if there is a connection to your problem or not.The vet did say she more likely then not had been doing it for some time and it became habit? HAve your dog checked by the vet, your case does not seem normal, get it fixed so it don't drive the both of you crazy..good luck

Hi..I had a dog for almost 9 years who constantly licked his paws...he was black and white and his paws were white, very white...I asked the vet about it and he checked for any infections between the toes or hot spots and there were none..he was just very anal bout having clean feet, he took pride in his feet..and I too heard it nightly, all night it seemed. Now that he's gone I really miss the late night slurping. On the other hand my hubby had a Rott and when she was licking her paws, she had an infected nail..so it's worth getting it checked out.. How do you like your boxer? I had one years ago, he was a bit obsessive compulsive...throw the ball..throw the ball...throw the ball..you get the picture.

I checked between his fingers, they look like pink in color when they loose fur. he'll be going to the vet this evening. He's a sweetheart. My wife is terrified of dogs and I did a lot of research on the internet as to which dog would fit in. The boxer just turned out to be all of what was written all over the internet. Now she loves him more than me. Non-stop nonsense as they say.He makes everyone fall in love with him.

The vet is your best bet... try to bring along a urine sample so they can do a UA on him. It has always been my experience that unusual attention paid to his penis means there could be something going on..... urinary tract infection, crystals in the urine making it painful.... definitely something to get checked.... Lots of dogs with allergies lick their feet... your vet will I'm sure look at all the possibilities...

IF the paws are just really sensitive, then you could try to use BLUE FOOT, which toughen's the dog's feet. I use it on ONE paw of my female's cracked pad and was sceptical, but it works for her... Its described as an anti septic for cuts, bites, etc... made by national pet products.

Just got back from the vet. He's got a fungal infection between his toes and around the organ. It induces a kind of itch which when scrathced continues for along while. he'll be on medicines for the next 7 days. Grisofluvin tablets, Candiderma cream application. He's had a couple of injections to reduce the itching sensation.I'm based in Bombay, India so the names of the medicines will sound unfamiliar. As well got his nails trimmed and ears cleaned. Thanks everybody for the inputs. Cheers

I'm glad you got it taken care of..you're a good daddy...ha...it probably spread from one the feet to the other.. Have fun with him..they are a kick..a laugh a minute. Great with kids also. Look out for what they call "cherry eye". alot of bulging eyed dogs get it, and it requires surgery to correct it. My boxer had it, but he also only had one testicle and epilepsy...it could have been a country song....anyway, that was just bad breeding, but he was one of the best dogs I've had. Never a dull moment. Have a great new year!

Cherry eye....hmmm will keep an eye on it. Looks like the medicines are working. He went to bed early last night and did not wake up until 6 this morning and no noises from him. As for kids, we're planning on having one next year. We test him by pampering a baby doll. He snorts and hisses at it and shakes his head sideways. Not sure what he means. Sometimes he looks & sounds agressive. Sometimes he just wants to make sure we pet him at the same time we pet the doll. How we love him!
