Steve, you are looking at some breeders who produce very drivey dogs...you stated in your post you wanted a puppy with "moderate" drive.  Be very clear about this when discussing puppies with your breeder, make sure they understand you have a busy household with your two children.

I'll be first to say that I'm a first time GSD owner and I own a puppy from Bill and Jen. It's only my husband and I, but Miya is able to settle in our home as a companion and I make sure she has enough exercise. they will be able to select the right puppy for you or refer you in the right direction to a breeder with a more suitable match .

I would not worry about Jen and Bill selling a pup that the new owner could not handle.    As far as Mittelwest is concerned, the issues that came up are not reflective (in my opinion) of the quality of her dogs.  I could not be happier with the temperment and health of my two females.

Do your research and know what you want in your new dog.  There  are a lot of breeders in the Chicago area.  Also look at resuce organizations.  In today's ecomony, there are a lot of dogs being given up due to inability to feed and vet them.  if you just want a pet, look here first.

Tintallie, Baldursmom- thats great to hear, that only adds to their very, very good reputation and it takes a truly caring breeder to put the happiness of the dog and buyer first. I've seen WL dogs from other breeders in this area put in homes where they just DO NOT belong...first time dog owners with intense drive and very handler hard dogs is bad news, and some people just want to make a sale. Then again, I have seen just as many tough SL dogs who are in the wrong hands, too.

Like everyone has said, Steve- just do your homework!

Spartanville Kennels- Constance.......we got a female puppy from her this summer that we plan on using as a service dog for my son. Constance was helpful, honest and  excellent customer service, Our pup Risque, is all that we could have hoped for, confident, a thinker, willing and one of the smartest pups I have ever raised. Constance picked her for us after hearing our  needs. I highly recommend her kennel..........dmom

Pat,
While I agree with you about Mike and Nate, there is no reason to be nasty. It detracts from you and them.
I also do not think that you are correct in your assessment of all of the "others".
A prime example is Jenni78.
Believe me, I know she can defend herself, but, I'll do it anyway.
She has no baggage and she has a nice litter of pups!

No, not a part of the fan club.
We don't even speak to each other.
I do, however, like to clear up bs from idiots like yourself that seem to have no reason for being here other than stirring up crap!
