OGBS, he or she has a habit of making snide remarks on this board so don't pay any attention and they just might go away.

I think Connie and Steve have a new litter on the ground, great people!

Since this post is still here, the most impressive dog I have seen from the Chicago area  (and really in the U.S.) is Vollmomds Vasko (Statesville, N.C. Regional Show) and the very first person I would contact in the Chicago area concerning the GSD would be Carlos Hureta.

Hey all-

Thanks for all the recommendations.  To date, I have spoken with several of your leads, met Connie and Steve Miller over the weekend and saw their litters, am meeting with Bill Kulla today, and am planning on meeting with one or 2 more breeders (possibly seeing a showline breeder in there to get a sense of differences between the SL and WL GSDs).  I am deeply appreciative for the recommendations you all have provided me, and also to those whom have been so generous of their time over the phone and in person.

It is quite a delightful experience to find such a group of people likes yourselves as dedicated to the breed.

Thank you all for your time and feedback!

Steve

Rik, you know Vasko? I've handled him for some PPD work and holy freakin crap that dog is a force of nature. I have never feared for a helper's safety before holding that dog. I know the owner of his older brother Thor is trying to work something out to have him titled...I sure as hell hope so.  I helped pick Vasko for his owner as a baby.  My friend and I had to go out to lunch to argue about it, I insisted he was the puppy to take for her client. Nya nya nya nya, guess who was right?

Steve and Conni have a litter due any minute by my dog, T. V Carol vom Arolser Holz, SchH3, FH2, KK1, a1 www.frauengarten.net/Carol1.html
There should be pups that anyone can handle, go as far as they want to go in the sport and/or serve as a good family dog at the same time. This is what T produces.

I'm confused...why would I need defending? Was that UKC comment directed at me? I am totally lost. Do I know 'Pat Relton' that s/he asks OGBS if he's part of a fanclub? Or was that not about me at all? Someone clarify, please.

I appreciate the recommendations I received...I spoke w/Steve and told him honestly that I am not sure I have a pup for him due to his wanting a therapy dog. With the right training and a very experienced handler, you COULD turn one of these hellions into a therapy dog, but I wouldn't say it's their "calling" by any means, LOL. The two I have are the worst/best of the bunch, IMO, and they are going to need a fairly experienced handler, although they certainly are nice stable puppies w/excellent temperament...they just have LOTS of temperament.

I mentioned Vollmond and Miller's to him as well; he may be better off w/a SL, although it will have to possess EXCELLENT temperament to be as versatile as he needs the dog to be. I told him that personally, I would go w/a great working line pup and put the time in necessary. You can always add control; you can't add a quality to a dog it wasn't born with.

That poster (Pat Relton) made a comment about all the breeders listed in this thread as "having baggage". I felt that it was nasty and un-called for, especially in your case.
After being called out on it Pat changed the post, as this person often does, to the comment about UKC/AKC papers.

Aha. Now I get it. I didn't see the first post. Too busy tending to my baggage.

KC spent quite a bit of time under the tent with him in Statesville show, He is a very impressive dog physically, masculine and a very nice head.

Think he measured a little tall and was moved back in the class. Are they both brothers pretty solid in bite work. If Vasko is as tough as he acted under that tent then he could make for some interesting breedings. His structure was very nice.
