Alsatian doesn't even sound good for an original name let alone a tag-on. They shouldn't have come up with it in the first place and they should DEFINITELY clean it up now!

Your don't have to send your dog to Germany to get a SchH title... it can all be done here.

I do not wish to get involved in the debate, but  the KC have written to the Alsatian training club of Bristol (ATCOB)a club that has been running for 47 years and asked if we would change our name to GSD. Two problems with the name change, firstly there is already a GSD of Bristol club and secondly all our team kit is embroidered with ATCOB so there is a not insignificant cost involved.

Suggestions on a postcard please.

The same as all clubs had to do when they dropped the Alsatian name bite the bullet and change team kit etc when you have the money to do so you could call yourselfs the Bristol gsd training club (BGSDTC) which is different from the gsd club of bristol

UNRECOGNISED - what a load of baloney.

The GSDL/WUSV Events are fully recognised and fully supported by the SV and the WUSV.

What is the reason why 'middle of the road' (Grays lot) and 'Alsatianists' do not exhibit under SV Judges?

Because their dogs are simply NOT GOOD ENOUGH.

All the crapola in the world will not change that fact.

It's food for thought in my view, wondering what the future holds. Whatever it is, it must encourage present and future exhibitors and breeders.

If Videx' statement is true (fact or fiction - you decide) then my concerns are not justified. Perhaps someone can clarify exactly what titles have been awarded at the GSDL/WUSV shows by the SV or FCI? Last I heard the FCI had refused recognition - but then I may be a little out of date on that one. I stand to be corrected - again.

Noddi, it is no doubt people like yourself that my reasoning applies to when I say good dogs and people could be lost to the breed, and a small nucleus of people could end up dominating the new style shows. But anyhow, it is only me thinking about a 'what if' scenario.

MissB - exactly what I said, so yes I got the picture from the outset, whereas you appear not to. The KC earn from registrations, not from shows, so they don't really care if there are fewer and fewer because clubs are running their own, if anything it could be a bonus for them. No breeder is going to stop registering their stock with the KC, so they are going to continue to rake in the cash.

Too dreary? Yes I guess it is dreary hearing what ya don't want to hear, no matter who says it. Doesn't change anything tho'- but you can stick your fingers in your ears and go LA LA LA. It's what many people having been doing in the breed for a long time now, so you will fit right in.
BTW love the play on my call name - I would never have thought of that.....LOL

Everyone has the choice to go to whatever type of show they want to and to me it actually boils do to the type of Judge and not which body runs the event. If in my eyes it's the right type of Judge i will go to that show.

Tbh i'd prefer to go to SV style run shows because i know every animal over 1 year old has to have most of the health tests done.

As long as the dog has past all it's mandatory health checks do recognised titles of any description make the animal produce any better than those without titles?.

The titles given to dogs by the KC are rendered meaningless if WE all know the dog has serious faults and no one would even think about breeding from them, yet under the setup of the KC it would be fine to breed from those animals.

No matter what side of the fence you show on it all boils down the freedom of choice and what YOU feel is the right way to show your animals.

Abbey Normal,i still think yu speak a lot of good sense, regardless wot DP.says.i,m afraid he,s so passionate about the correct type and th kennel clubs attitude with regards to mandatory health testing that all else and other peoples perceptions are not taken account of to mull over.i for instance am on the germanic side ,but i can see that all is not rosy on our side also.some people are no longer helpful, nor nice to newcomers.theres so much backbiting and hatred that i too fear for the breed.the type of animals IMO.will probably sort itself out in the future as more and more are using german stock or their descents breed here.its the exhibitors themselves that are destroying this breed.on one hand the germanics are trying to lay down the law with the kennel club.Rightly so in most aspects re health issues(mandatory health tests on sire and dam before pups can be reg,d. for all breeds).where we should be liasing and compromising on his the rest of their issues(unsoundness, backlines and the dreaded double handling)we know have the situ.where i think it can be resolved(DH.ONLY)At KC events including breed club shows if it has to be NO DOUBLE HANDLING,then at our unlicensed events with the KC blessing ,DH in the area designated by the events committee.i believe at the regional events held(i helped out at one)the atmosphere was fantastic, everyone helping each other as it was when i 1st started.the 2 day show had a tremendous atmosphere ,all appeared happy,in good spirit, applauding the winners.i thought the judging on the 1st day to be somewot surprising in regards to where some top winners were in their classes but i thought it was fair and honest.we get so used to seeing the same animals winning that it becomes somewot of a shock when they,re down the line.then a day or 2 later a thread appears on here.not to slag off any winner, but to comment on the show itself and congratulate the winners and then other aspects appear and it once again becomes a place to question the proceedings, winners, judges .then it becomes nasty and ones win is a source of ridicule and downright malicious  bitchiness.THIS IN MY VIEW WILL BE THE DOWNWARD FALL OF THE GSD BREED AND ALL BREEDS IN THE FUTURE.NOWT TO DO WITH THE DOGS THEMSELVES BUT THEIR OWNERS GREED TO WIN .ADOPTING THE GERMAN SYSTEM I,M AFRAID IS NOT GOING TO CHANGE IT,AS EVEN I WANT TO WIN,BUT NOT AT ALL COSTS.IM AFRAID I,VE BEEN BROUGHT UP TO THINK OF OTHERS TOO.Dale yu are right.if i had a choice(and this will be in the future when i have a new puppy)i would go to the new style event if there was one of each on that particular day,but i will enter both.it would imo.be great to have an animal who has attained its uk kc champ.title and also be attaining  numerous V or VA gradings at the SV/WUSV/GSDL events. And i still say David, tho.yu keep stating they aint good enough, that some of the dogs that i will (sorry folks)class as middle of the road, and i class my chiki as one,WOULD BE GOOD ENOUGH IF THEY HAD BEEN TRAINED TO SHOW THE GERMANIC WAY AND WERE MORE ATHLETIC SHALL WE SAY.i really wish one of these exhibitors would train one of their up and coming animal to compete this way and take the wind out of your sail, but why should they if they prefer to show at a more leisurely pace.AS IT KEEPS BEING STATED ON HERE,ITS ONES FREEDOM OF CHOICE.Now i,m off out with my girlies before it gets too hot.good luck to all showing this weekend.lecture over.Carole Spelman.

Noddi, agree with you totally about the facey judging. Liked the dog that won at Leicester today though, so you may be right about the 'type' sorting itself out in the long run. I agree with you too about the 'nastiness' that has crept in to the breed, and is surely going to contribute to it's downfall. Years ago shows were so different, and people even when disappointed with the result had the grace to congratulate the winner, and as you say there was a general air of camerarderie.

Perhaps the internet and forums (such as this) contributed to the change, allowing people to be nasty where they wouldn't have had the courage to do it to someone's face, along with greed and money. The small exhibitor with just one or two dogs is becoming a thing of the past. Sad.

by noddi on 26 June 2010 - 19:06

yes you ,re right.its now the bigger kennels and those who have the finances to fund either sending their animals to germany or paying professional trainers here in the uk.I,m not saying that there,s anything wrong in that, far from it and good luck to ya BUT people who only have one or two animals and no helpers are at a disadvantage from the word go.i have only myself to train and excercise my dogs and no one else to attract at shows, and to be honest i,m absolutely useless at DH.anyway.i always try to congratulate the winners if possible.Do yu know me AbbyNormal?i always sign my post with my correct name.just curious thats all.well have a nice evening ,just going out with chiki for her 2nd walk as its now getting cooler and i,m trying real hard to get her fit .nite all.have a drink for me Rab and savour the moment.hope yu were there to take it all in.real chuffed for ya.yu,ve waited long enough and now ya,ve got it.Carole Spelman.RHEINMEISTER GSDS.
