Hi everyone. I am looking for info on anyone else who has possibly had a dog with a similar problem. I have a 7 month old male GSD. He is not mine, but one currently at my home whom I am trying to help a friend "fix" as she is at her wits end. This dog is urinating straight blood. There is a LOT of blood everytime he urinates. Her vets have treated him with typical antibiotics for a UTI. When four complte rounds of different med didn't work (I think they should have acted faster but whats done is done) she gave him to me. I took him to my vet on Monday. His PH is extremely high. He has no bacteria in his urine- so no UTI. No stones. Completely normal bloodwork. He is otherwise healthy but on the thin side despite lots of food and a moderate appetite. He is on cranberry supplements (might as well try). We are doing more x rays and an ultrasound but my vet and the last four don't know what to think. Has anyone ever gone through this with a dog???

I'm more familiar with human medicine than veterinary, being a nurse. But the first thing that comes to mind is bladder cancer. I don't know if dogs are prone to it, or if it would show up in a dog so young, but if he were a human that's what I'd be looking for!

They might be able to put a tube with a scope on the end into his bladder to see what's going on.  (Cystoscope examination.) That would show more than an ultrasound.

Infection in the prostate can also cause bloody urine, but the antibiotics should have fixed that up. My male was leaking bloody urine due to an infected prostate, and it cleared up okay after the vet neutered him and gave him antibiotics.

Bottom line: more testing is needed.

Is this Bruno you're talking about? Such a nice puppy, you should be proud. I'm sorry to hear the situation has worsened, when he was with me, I saw a faint pink tinge in his urine and we got him on meds right away. His brother, oddly enough, was having the same problem.  I believe he has been on more than four rounds, as I understand, he was having UT problems before he came in, went through 2 rounds previously, I think another 2 rounds with us before he even came back home and started having the problem again. I'm sorry I can't be of more help to you but I just wanted to say he and his brother are such nice pups and it was a pleasure to work with them both.  Has Kano's UTI come back at all?

I had a bitch with one, and for almost 1 year no matter the meds she went on, would get part of it, she was either to high in one area and clear in another, and this would rotate. I read up on the various meds she was taking liver damage, kidney damage. I began getting concerened due to length of time. So at this point I felt I had nothing left to lose, so I bought a book on Holistice cures for dogs. Gave her 500 mil vitiamin C for the crystals (breaks them up), cranberry capsuels for the bacteria, and apple cider vinegar pills for the ph level. I took her off all the vet meds and gave this to her for 10 days. then off 5 and took her to the vet to be checked. Worked. I now give this to her for 3 days the 1st of every month, she has not had an infection in years and she use to get them all the time, with that one that kicked her but.
I would make sure there is nothing else going on, if not I would try this, I spent hundreds trying to clear that last infection, was able to cure it under $20.

I would do a scope.
