I think machines far more sensitive than the dog's nose will eventually be invented.
I am not very selfish and I don't ruin America.
About the border, I am for a wall and greater use of national ID cards.
Why don't we have a wall? It is financially doable and practical, but we don't want the negative connotation of a police state since we love freedom
Same for national ID.
We want greater legal flow and trade across the southern border.
I have already said that currently drug detection and SAR are the two useful canine jobs.

Well. what if I say that human beings are more intelligent than dogs so that that are better at bomb detection.
Same for apprehending criminals. Cops with guns are better than dogs at apprehending criminals.
Dogs are not really needed for the above unless you think that a dogs life is worth less than a human life.
I think so, but I don't think the dog is happier doing bomb detection and apprehending criminals than playing with me.
My point is really don't be so righteous about the cause of a working dog. At the end it is the dogs presumed expendibility that make its work useful.
As I have said, drug detection and SAR works are two of few areas where a dog is humanely useful, without much species elitism.

What advantages do police dogs have over human police?

Answer:
Dogs have a fantastic sense of smell that is about 50 times better than that of humans. Using their powerful noses, police dogs can track criminals, locate drugs, find weapons and detect bombs. In the same situations, human police would have to use their eyes and search large areas. Plus, dogs can separate smells, which means even if there are a whole bunch of scents mixed together, they can pick out and follow just one. Another advantage police dogs have over their human partners is intimidation. Criminals get scared when a police dog growls at them because they know they can't reason with a dog, and they're more likely to go quietly with law enforcement officers when a police dog is present. Moreover, if there is a need to fight with a criminal, dogs are superior to humans. They're faster and stronger, and their powerful jaws can hold a suspect until help arrives.

Does it prefer work, being shot at, over playing with me in my yard? You think so, really? This is a totally absurd supposition.
Even cops prefer not being shot at, that is why there are police dogs, for the most part.
Most cops work for pay with some job satisfaction. Also, many women like men in LE.

"
Why would one associate being a pet and staying in a kennel?
My dogs trot about 8-9 miles a week next to me, play in the yard, go thru obstacles, just have fun. She is also very intimidatingly protective.

I won't be surprised if machines that can be even better and economical will be invented.
At present, drug detection remains a useful canine job, very few.
