My dogs can trot miles without the added angle. Also, they stand for long periods of time. Over angulated dogs, sit very quickly after moving, it looks like hard work to stand with the back legs at those angles.

"My dogs can trot miles without the added angle. Also, they stand for long periods of time. Over angulated dogs, sit very quickly after moving, it looks like hard work to stand with the back legs at those angles."
Yes they likely can, just not the same distance in the same amount of time and effort.
Better angulated dogs can stand just the same.
"Those angles" is more in stack pose than in the natural stance of a well angulated GSD. Bodybuilders do not flex their muscle all day long, just in poses.
You can say chackmate all day, but poorly angulated dogs will not win any conformation title.

The best and balanced angulation allows a dog to cover the greatest distance with the least effort. How great an advantage is this? A matter of judgement, I believe.

seems like there is some kind of truth in this article about our gsd.
People should look more and more at the working benefits of our breed too not only the beauty outside.
I breed the show and workinglines but they both need to work and do their thing. Not only being beautfull on a show...

This article was posted in another area, and I thought this excerpt from it was interesting, in regard to over angulation and other 'flavour of the day conformation styles'.
American judges claim the hyper-angulated hindquarter shows stronger rear propulsion. It doesn’t – extreme American dogs virtually never achieve the AD(endurance test) or schutzhund titles that require jumping – but that’s what they believe and it is a fiction which has persisted for over thirty years. German judges claim the roach back is an indication of strength. It isn’t – slow motion video shows how a malformed back distorts in motion – but that’s what they believe and it is a fiction which has also persisted for over thirty years.

(Jimmy is the best known handler of GSDs in the States and Canada.)
Tell it like it is, Linda!!
And Fred Lanting (Mr. GSD, one of only 2 judges ever licensed to judge GSDs in both Germany and N. America) will confirm her second statement about the roached backs.
