Tiago, and whoever else may have sent a response, I'll read it in the morning.  We just had some really bad weather come through our county with a reported tornado sighted and a lot of damage all around.  Everything is good at our house, but it's been a long night.

Surely those of you who were shocked/offended/incensed over the language
and curtness of Steve realize, this is not something that goes on ALL through
an entire training session and for every handler?

I don't even think HE could cuss that long

I remember watching a helper in CA take the whip and pop the
HANDLER in the calves of his bare legs (no, not me-sorry to dissapoint).

This was done because after trying to nicely explain how important it was
for the handler to "be a post", (meaning STAND in ONE spot, don't MOVE),
the helper was almost bit more than once,
so he got fed up and cracked the handler with the whip.

It worked, the handler "woke up" and the helper was able to safely work the dog.

Maybe Steve can start a "Beyond Scared Straight-Schutzhund for novices" show

What Jetta didn't show is Steve working with youth handlers in all three phases-
his language cleaned up appropriately-totally different demeanor with youth.

Like the dogs he works, he reads each client/club member as an individual.

Jetta made a comment "I still have a few images I will never forget".

Then why didn't you comment on those AT the time?
Are you implying he was abusive to an animal?
If so, shame on him, but even bigger SHAME ON YOU
for not reporting it or saying something before,
instead of years after the fact.

You trained with Bill Kulla for awhile too didn't you Jetta?
Christ, Bill's not exactly a "choir boy" himself!
I'm sure like Steve, he has a colorful vocabulary.

The thing that I don't get, if people are offended by it,
then don't train with people like him.

Swearing/cussing etc is a part of daily life, like it or lump it.

GSDguy, you are right, likely no training is any "better" because
Steve cussed at someone,but I bet those handlers
"woke the f*ck up" real quick.

You are talking about heat of the moment incidents,
sure, I suppose there are many to use in Steve's case ,
but again, no one is forced to train with him.

I know in speaking with him recently, he has clients/club members
that travel 2+ hours to train with him, of their own free will-no court order etc!

Steve is not for everyone, but then again, neither are people like Wallace Payne,
Gary Hanrahan, Dean Calderon, T Floyd, Chris Carr, Cliff Benjamin, Lance Collins etc.

Those that can look past the sometimes heated discourse will
recieve pretty damn good training for both them AND their dog.

Not many helpers in this country have the gift of being able to guide
BOTH the dog & the handler at the same time, nor do they have the patience.

I give Steve credit for encouraging many novice handlers to work with their dogs,
age of dog/handler/experience/bloodlines etc don't matter.
Black, pink, purple he accepts any and all as they are,
so he should be granted the same courtesy.

I posted the video because it makes the great training helpers out there look bad and it makes the sport look bad.

Denise, it appears that you are saying that Steve is one of the great training helpers......... and why do you want to make the sport look bad?

It's a shame that someone would put together a video with clips from different training sessions to make a trainer look bad.  The video is a lie and to post it is also a lie.  Shame on everyone involved.

Hey, walk in his shoes for a mile or two,
achieve a tenth of what his clients/club members have.
And again, these people all PAY & TRAVEL to train specifically
WITH Steve. Not court ordered either!

Whats even funnier is someone took the time to piece this all together.

Is the one who put it together the one named "Joby", if so, well, 'nuff said.

Joby is known in the mid-west, but not for accomplishments, moreso
for sitting back and telling everyone what alllll the others are doing wrong


It's a pity there is not more to the video, perhaps some footage showing
the handlers laughing at THEMSELVES after training, and everyone having
a good time.

I saw no abusive training, no shitty training, just heard some frustration
from a helper/coach.

If some of you think this is bad, you should try "Hell Week" or "Black Friday" at the academy.
And again, if it's too offensive for you, thats ok, don't train with someone like him.

It kind of reminds me of a trial years back when this 60+yr old "grandpa"
wearing coke bottle glasses, bad knees & a hearing aid
brought his big soft eared SchH3 male out, and for the Test of Courage
(yeah, I mentioned it was years back right? ), he proceeded to yell:
"Hey you, YOU, STOP GOG DAMMIT YOU DUMB SONOFABITCH OR I'LL SEND MY F*CKING DOG!!!"
Then, sent said dog with the command, "Get that c*cksucker, tear him up!"

SV Judge just laughed and shook his head when his wife translated for him
He did however remind the handler that he was losing points for "extra commands",
and what the actual commands were

And for what it's worth, I have actually heard ladies at club that could
give Steve a run for his money language wise

Denise   Some people just don’t understand the concept of personal accountability . Denise, You are one of those people.  I gave you the respect of PM years ago not anymore  If you are going to attempt to trash someone who you trained with, not for the short time that you mentioned ,but for  four(4) yrs because you were sent a link to an obviously edited video then you must accept the responsibility and realize that fallout goes along with that action.  Steve is the same person he has always been. I believe he was one of the guys that drove to your apartment to help you move out when the complex had refused to renew your lease because Jetta kept attacking people walking by your first floor apartment.  Evidently you didn’t understand that your dog had to be under control, but Steve was there to help you.   

For the record it wasn't the first time that Denise lacked accountability. Her dog had already bitten her son in the face a couple of times.  She told us it was her son’s fault,  but what about the 10 yr old girl in the park that required stitches when you didn’t control your dog?  Was it her fault too?

 

Steve was also the guy who prevailed on his friend, Tom Trainor to help you with tracking so you could squeak thru your trial.  Did you forget that too?  This is the same Steve whose club you sued when you fell off a bike while doing an AD at their trial.  That seemed so strange to me becauseyou were already on disability and  collecting workmen’s comp for carpal tunnel or something and you were down in KY riding a bike ?   We both know that your lack of personal accountability is not limited to Steve alone.  I remember taking time off from work to take you in for outpatient surgery after I had told you that I couldn’t but you called me frantically that morning because your daughter wasn’t returning your calls and you didn’t want to reschedule your surgery so I rescheduled my day to help you. I also remember when you called me asking for $2,000.00 because you had run into a deer or something and that lousy insurance company wouldn’t pay because you had only purchased liability coverage  You couldn’t be bothered to read your policy or check coverage and now what were you to do?  Couldn’t sue a deer!!!  I confess I can be a naïve trusting person  I loaned you the $$  you told me you would start paying me back $100 every 2 wks starting in September 2004.   Okay.  September came and went  no $  I asked you about it in November and  you told me you would pay it all back after Jetta had her pups.  Well a nice big healthy litter arrived were sold  and still no $$ and no call from you either.  I remember in July I signed up for an Ivan seminar up at Foxtal in WI  about 4 hrs away  I was really looking forward to this because I was scheduled for back surgery in September and I knew I’d be in body cast for a year so training would be limited.  Unfortunately my husband who was legally blind and diabetic had injured his toe and it required dressing every day.  I called and asked you if you could help you said yes.  You had a wake to go to but since the wake was close to our house you would be there by 9:00 PM . 9 came, no Denise but, a frantic hubby on the phone, I called your cell  repeatedly.  No answer ok  I tracked down a friend who was out to dinner with clients  but he said he would excuse himself and go help Paul . I finally reached you around 10  I called you a fucking bitch  I was furious  I called 10 minutes later and apologized  but in retrospect I was right the first call. You made sure everybody at the club knew what an abusive bitch I was  but you failed to provide the whole picture  how typical of you.  I still hadn’t received any $$ that you owed me nor had you ever had the decency to mention it.  I contacted you in December of 2005 about the $$  you said you had another lawsuit that would settle soon and you would see that I got paid  well you got paid  but I didn’t  so I contacted you again its now May of 2006  you wanted me to dig up the old bills  you couldn’t be bothered  and golly gee your financial guy must have forgotten to pay me  oh puuuleeeze   anyway you did finally get the $$$ to me in June of 2006  but we both know what an irresponsible person you are  so cut this holier than thou crap. Being unhappy at the club I remember the last day when DB told you to take your dog off the field because you wouldn’t listen ,wouldn’t correct Jetta for being dirty and helpers were fed up with you endangering them with your lack of accountability  again.

Denise, why is it that you turn on almostt anyone who has ever helped you out in the past?

It was hosted by me, for a day, because it came up on a working dog board, where there was a discussion going on about it.

I thought it was pretty funny myself.

I took an interest in it, becuase I have never witnessed this type of behavior from guy running a training group...and wanted to hear what people had to say about it.

I am sure he is a great helper, this video however, shows moments in time, that could lead someone to believe he is a total tool, for talking to people, and belittleing a new helper that way, in front of a group of people....for some, that is over the line, and not a good way to teach or to learn, for others it appears to be acceptable, even effective..

it is obviously put together to illicit a negative opinion of him, but hell it was him in the footage, not like it was fake..so to call it defamation or lies, is pretty silly..it is footage of the man, just like any other footage of someone that makes them look like a tool, it might not be accurate in the big scope of things, but video doesnt lie, this stuff did occur...

I do not know anyone involved, and did not make the video, just posted it for a day, to continue a discussion about it. All opinions are in, so now it is gone....

For the ladies that do train with him, are your husbands or boyfriends present at training, if so, how do they like it? most MEN I know would not allow someone to speak to their woman like that...

As to your point about it not being "fake" ok, BUT, it's sooo out of context (spliced clips) that it certainly isn't what you'd call an accurate portrayal of the man. 

How sad that people have that much time on their hands. 

I'm not insecure & would probably get in a bit of trouble if he talked like that to my mom, sister, girlfriend or any other female in front of me. It's a matter of respect for woman, nothing to do with schutzhund or training. He might be the best trainer in the world but comes off like a tool. I can get my point across to people pretty quick with a look & a couple words, none of them disrespectful like that. IMO
