I have a proposed breeding that will be line bred on Fado v. Karthago 5,5-5,4. Any comments from knowlegeable working line folks are welcome. Interested in what Fado brings, both good and bad.

I asked the same question here last year but did not get much response so I'm very interested in hearing what others have to say as well.

The only thing I can tell you, (Because I haven't been serious in the breed long enough to have first hand knowledge) is second hand knowledge. A local breeder in my area had the good fortune to be in Germany to see Fado win the WUSV in '89. She said he was on the smaller side, clearly loved to work for his handler, was social off the field, and a power house on the field. She was so impressed she sent one of her bitches to Germany for a breeding to him.

I've also heard that he did have some elbow issues with some of his breeding's, but can't find any definitive evidence that proves this.

I have a 5, 5-5 line bred Fado male (16 months old) that is maturing into a very nice dog. He was evaluated by my Schutzhund trainer as having tons of drive and temperament, a really nice on/off switch, and a very willing please personality. I realize, because Fado is so far back in his pedigree that, there are many other dogs's who play a role in the characteristics that make up my dog as a whole. However, I've had people tell me, before they saw his pedigree, that they thought my male had to be line bred on Fado.

Here's his pedigree:

My bitch, http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/german_shepherd_dog/dog.html?id=1320216 , is line bred 5-4 on Fado. Dont know how much influence it has on her given its so far back, but i have NO complaints whatsoever with this bitch's temperament, size, and working ability.

Yeah, that far back is a reach. Had a female 4-5 that was a monster. Vom banholz had a nice video of him, where you could clearly see what he brought to the table. It all depends who else is closer in the pedigree. 5-5 on Fado through shit is shit.
