Hello,
I am chiming in from South Carolina.
I could care for a special needs GSD when needed and could help out with transport.

I have 3 MegaE, 1 EPI, 1 with major allergies and 1 that survived Distemper as a pup.
I have trained them and now compete with them in rally, agility, obedience and now looking to train in tracking and compete.

This is all so VERY cool.

No issues about barking dogs at my "new" place.
No trick-or-treaters either. The closest paved road is a quarter mile to the right of the house. That dark line that winds around is a canal. (no sides on the narrow bridge... :-)

Fencing and landscaping going in the front right now. Next: the back yard, and double fencing the kennel area.

Perfect location for what you want :) We have no property around here- our neighbors house is 5 feet from ours :(

Wrong thread I think :)

Nope, it was the right one LOL

Vonissk, definitely put me in contact with your guy LOL. I believe that if Sarge works well, he is already spoken for BUT it would be good info
to have for then next dogger that has potential. I'm sure that it won't be long in waiting with as many GSD who are left in the shelters.

Hi everyone,

I have been contacted about a 5 year old female GSD that is heartworm positive that needs a rescue. I have not been able to load pics of this girl.
Without a rescue to take her I can't get her out. I have very limited space and only for very short term.

I care for very special needs GSDs and I have 4 in house right now and expect a fifth one to be brought to me anytime.

I have been gving some thought on how to proceed. I think I will apply for a NYS non profit license for the purpose of helping rescues /dogs. I dont need a 501c3 for that. At least that way donations coming in will not look like income, we can prove it is going to a specific purpose, and no one has to be uncomfortable about donating money and it not being used appropriately.

Personally, starting up a bonafide rescue is not what I want to do and I do not feel we have the resources to do so. I was hoping we could become a rescue team- meaning rescue facilitators- helping rescues to be able to take in more dogs, helping by getting dogs to them and holding for transport till transport could be arranged.  Dogs cant be pulled if they have no where to go, once pulled, even if fostered temporarily- they must have a destination, and the only way to accomplish that, IMHO, is to make it so a rescue will take them by providing services they might not be able to handle, with so many rescues closing. Rescue facilitation is very important- we saw that 4 times this week. I am hoping the dogs in the same shelter as the malinois can be saved, as well as the malinois, if we can get spay neuter funds, vaccinations and HW test for all.  Of course, if there are heartworms they would need to be treated. I know westlab pharmacy, who compounds the meds for the DM Support Group would work with me by providing doxy at cost. The slow kill method does work and it is less dangerous that the immiticide which costs $500. We have had great sucess with the slow kill, when I worked in rescue, as the adult heartworms cannot reproduce when the woolbachia is killed off- thats what the doxycycline does). That combined with Ivermec will kill the young heartworms. I know Animal Allies, who Julie uses, charges $65 per dog for spay/neuter, shots and HW Test. The Mal is already spayed so she would be $45 to vaccinate and HW Test. I would assume spay/neuter packages for other rescues would be about the same. We need to partner with rescues.

We still need someone who could reference check the transporters and fosters, and we still need someone who could be a transport coordinator, or maybe have one in the north, south, east, and west who could work together.  I cannot do it all, alone. There just arent enough hours in the day :( So far no one has volunteered. I dont know who on the board is affiliated with rescue because signatures are not allowed, so we may have to move off the site, which I did not want to do. IN order to partner, I need to know who is affiliated with rescue, here. However, with so little notice before a dog is euthanized, and rescue signatures not allowed, no one is going to have time to read every post on the board to find out who is affiliated with a rescue, when the clock is ticking down to euthanization time :(  I may call my non profit GSD911 and form it in Missie T's honor.

Admin,

May I suggest that signatures be allowed that do something to benefit the breed. I know in my signature, I had the GSDBBR, which I feel has tremendous value for the future of the breed. Even if breeders wont be forthcoming, people who own pups or dogs from breedings have a place to tell the truth about what they see in their own dog! The DM Support Group benefits people who find themselves in a very dark place who frankly, need alot of help when they discover they have been given a death sentence for their dog. There are NO survivors in DM, and people need help. Rescues are essential for saving lives. Snake oil is being sold on the net by people who pay for advertising slots- people who prey on people with DM dogs who have zero experience. An airline pilot bought a company on Ebay selling a *miracle* cure for DM, and they stole words from my site and Dr Clemmons site. I spoke with this pilot and he knows less than nothing about DM. Sadly, most people are uneducated about DM and truly do not understand it. They will fall into the hands of the greedy sharks if they dont know real help is available. No one said life is fair, but when you look at signatures, IMHO, signatures that do things to help our breed should be allowed on people's posts. Its not like brag signatures or signatures listing every dog or champion a person has ever had- signatures that do a service for the breed, IMHO, are important. Without that, it ties our hands. I want very much to keep this effort here, as there are so many breed lovers and people with  knowledge who could help dogs that need some work. That all can be gotten here, but if one has to start frantically searching the board to see who is in rescue  by searching for posts mentioning rescue to know who might have a slot open is time wasted, when there is no time to be wasted :( It is simply a difference between life and death for a dog. Period, end. Thats just what it boils down to and as much as I wish to keep this effort here, if it may slow down the efforts to get a GSD out of harms way, that just wont work :(

I guess I am damaged because I couldnt save Missie T, so I feel I have to save any dog who will die for no reason other than being disposable to twisted selfish individuals. I fought so hard for Missie T's life, while others consider their dogs to be throw aways????(  I would have sold my soul to the devil to have had ONE more day with her- one more HOUR with her!) That is just unconscionable and unfathomable to me. I simply cannot have a dog die for nothing, if there is some way I can change that death sentence. There is just no time to waste, so signatures which can help prevent these deaths are of utmost importance. I cannot stress this enough. Thank you for listening...

For now a suggestion could be that you start a New thread called " Affiliated with Rescues" or something similar...Keep posts strictly for that..It can be bumped to the top periodically...

Let those who are affiliated with rescues post there...If thats all thats posted on the thread it will be an easy reference ..
