If we could get a rescue forum, in addition to an area where dogs could be posted, it would be nice to get a state by state listing of GSD rescues, a state by state forum for volunteer transport and fostering and maybe a section where people could volunteer to help rescues by doing at home visits.

Other suggestions?

There is a rescue section in classifieds and I can try and get you a forum.

That would be nice... like there is a Breeder Map, maybe there could also be a Rescue Map?

A rescue map would be pretty cool,  especially if it could include routes/states/regions that transporters are able to take.

Marjorie

There's at least two GS rescues in Missouri-Missouri German Shepherd Rescue (out of KC) & Serendipity German Shepherd (out of St Louis-I fostered for the original founder some years back when it was out of Columbia)-I haven't had much luck in communicating with either over a few dogs that I sent infro on, but maybe you might have better luck establishing a working relationship.

Just a note, German Shepherds usually go fast from listings in this area, but I do not know whether people are doing home checks or requiring other referrences . . . . . . .

A forum would be a God send...:)

I love the idea of a rescue map with transport routes.

I love the sponsor a dog idea, too! That would make it easier for a rescue to take a dog, for sure.

Denb, thanks for the info on the 2 rescues in Mo. I am going to keep those in a file, as well.

I can handle two temp fosters awaiting transport, (maybe even special needs) at a time here in Sutter County, CA. (50 miles north of Sacramento)  I am not officially affiliated with any 501c3 rescue, work more than full-time, live alone (little-no help with the dogs) but I can usually get one to pull a dog out of the Los Angeles kill shelters if immediate transport up here can be arranged.

I can also offer layovers to transporters. Right now its just a sofa in my living room here on the prune farm, but I am planning to furnish one of the spare bedrooms for a guest room in the near future and put up two more chain link kennel runs. I have two rescues now, looking for forever homes, but there's always room for an overnight at Haus Roecker.

:-) I don't come on this board much so contact me by e-mail wkgdogs@gmail.com

Shelley
