Does anyone in the UK know of a vet who does Hip and Elbow x rays without sedation.

Do you mean with sedation but without anaesthesia?

Blitzen just said something interesting on another thred - apparently when
doing Xrays for OFA in America, its been proven that dogs have failed when
sedated, but passed if re Xray'd fully awake.  Something about there being
too much subluxation when sedated if they have shallow sockets.  I'd never
heard this mentioned in re BVA Scheme ?

Ronnie used to have a radiographer in a human hospital do most of hers,
without any anaesthesia, dunno if she slipped 'em an ACE or something to
sedate a bit;  she used to hold them in position herself.  Doubt one would
be able to get away with that nowadays.

Known of lots of people resistant to anaesthetising their dogs for hip Xrays.
Can't help with vets,  my last dog was knocked out because my vet was
looking for something else at the time, the hip Xray was more or less
incidental, but having got it taken, obviously I submitted it to BVA.  [8 years
ago, now].

I take it from the responces that uk vets dont xray without sedation, yes Linda you guessed correctly,i did see another thread about usa not sedating.
I think positioning is very important, some of my xrays do not look as well positioned as some i have seen on this board,i dont have any with knees showing for instance so wondered from what i have read from various sources if the positioning was as good as it could be.I do understand you cannot make bad hips look good, but i do believe good hips can look worse than they should because of bad positioning.Thankyou for your responces.

Making sure you get the knees in seems to be a comparitively
recent thing too;  used to see a heck of a lot of plates that did
not include them, years ago.
