Hi all,

thats my result ( my male Pico) of an experiment between showline and workingline, we bought him back from his first owner, now we train him and he is doing really great, my personal "RinTinTin"(the prototype of a german shepherd) all dogs out of these pairing are really outstanding, very healthy and the owners are more than satisfied with their dogs,(clear headed, social, alert on property) include me !!!
my male is winning a lot of shows (the judges liked him very much in case of his fantastic top-line, expression and deep red colour, with the perfect proportiondsin conformation) and has outstanding drives.
breeders has to be open for new ways and they will be thrilled about the results !!!!

I guess what many and me to don´t like about crossing todays showlines with workingdogs is the fact the purpose seems mostly be to get a dog that is more "beautifull", if focus was health, better workingdrives and a healthy functional structure I suppose showlines doesn´t add anything you can´t find more easily in workinglines.

But as I said dogs who has some influence of "showlines" I don´t mind as long as the dog is a good producer and the structure is more in line with the workingdogs, this dog even has some british dogs in the mix, but he was a good policedog and also worked on a high level in sport and seems to have produced pretty well, so neglecting such a dog because he hasn´t 100% "workinglines" for 10 generations I see no point in

Beautiful dog Isa,
Here are a couple pics of some of my dogs that are cross from show/work. EVERYONE of them is healthy and have more than ample amount of drive(s) that they could do just about whatever was put before them to do.

This is just a Few...

Thanks for your nice words, my kennel-name in Germany is " von Metunaj " , but the litter of Pico was produced in the states by my friend Frank Tate, with his help i could figure the dream out, in Germany i would loose the respect of the hardcore-workingline breeders. Linebreeding - 8 generations

Breeding a workingline to a showline is no miracle.
In this pedigree like in almost every other pedigree of working/showline breedings you will find the same ancestors around generation 7/8.

I have been reading alot about this and bouncing the idea around in my head and following the views of some well known breeders and people that have impacted the breed in great ways.  Now I am no expert but it seems as if some people may need to put there "EGOs" to side.  What I mean is this.  most working line breeders say that it is the ability of the dog that counts and how it works overall.  You will also here a workingline breeder say that not every dog in a litter regardless of what two dogs where paired together will not be breed worthy.  This mind set makes sense but the problem is that if that is the case and you can find a showline that has ballanced drives and has a history of that threw its pedigree what is wrong with combing the two to see if you can get a better litter than if you where to stay within the norm which is to breed working line to working line or show line to show line.  Some of the dogs that have been posted within this thread are good examples of how it can work.  I think that we all agree that you can combine working line with working line and it could turn out a crappy litter because the homework wasnt done.  I think that we all need to be concerned about possibly breeding ourselves into a corner.  I think that we need to be open to crossing the two.  I think that there will be alot of trial and error but isnt that happening already?

It´s possible and it should be done, but neither breeder will do it not buyer will except it.

Workingline people won´t buy these dogs, and showline people won´t buy these dogs.
They are not interested in the universal dog, but in the champion, no matter if this champion will behave or look like the standard in its original any more.

Most of these puppies will be sold to pet homes, lost for the breed.

The linebreeding chart of Asha shows 12 (!) dogs that were good enough to produce both, VA dogs AND SchH champions, although today we call all of these dogs mentioned showline dogs.
8 generations only........
