How about "noodlin", sticking your hand down a cat fish's throat to catch it. Guess they never got the hook, line and sinker (and bait), part of evolution.LOL
I tell people when they get a pup from me; don't go to Pet smart or dog whisperer for training or problems.

I did watch the video on the roll and I thank you for sharing that.  Of course many old style trainers will still use that method on even milder dogs than the one in the video as a matter of course during puppyhood.

It very clearly states not to attempt any of these techniques yourself.

Due to the outcry over Cesar 'kicking' dogs, he has stopped dloing it.

I am all for the guy: he emphasizes that a dog needs structure, exercise and affection. Nothing wrong wiith that ,even if some consider his methods old school.

Would someone explain to me what is wrong with being the 'leader of the pack'? I studied animal behaviour in university, and every animal that lives in groups, from chickens to chimps has a 'pecking order or pack structure'!

One of the best things I ever saw on his program was the pack walk he held with dogs he'd rehabilitated that otherwise would have been euthanized. Damn near brought tears to my eyes!

Saying he found his niche is a good way of putting it. He does display good body posture and reminding people to be calm and stating that dogs live in the moment are positive things .There are a lot of things you should know about canine behaviour and training methods you will not learn from watching Cesar. Cesar does have a confrontational approach and has been bit in half of the shows I have seen. Dogs can kill human beings. I do not like his "bite" and have seen it go wrong with people that have attempted it. If you are going to train from watching videos you are much better off watching  Michael Ellis or Ivan Balabanov DVDs.

I appreciate the awareness on adoption Ceasar has brought to the public in his new series,,I do like his no nonsense approach and his calm assertive technique..

I agree there are times when he is unnecessarily confrontational with dogs, when a softer, more gentle approach would be better. But of course, that's not as dramatic for the camera! Sad Smile

What people don't consider is that people who do what he does, aren't dealing with warm and fuzzy behaviors or issues much of the time....or why are they being called in. People who get paid to go into people's home, ( and I do ), understand that you often don't have the option of the warm and fuzzy method for a very severe behavior for a variety of reasons. Clients want results, clients often can't carry out the prolonged positive only method, some behaviors have progressed to point where the Dog's safety or future will be impacted if an immediate solution isn't acquired.  I don't subscribe to any type of brutality or abuse, but people who have to go into new places, with new dogs, and long entrenchment of behaviors, generally do not view him as the pet owner or pet trainer.....whole different world.
