So what I am hearing is that out of thousands and thousands of SL breeders, there are none capable of producing consistently top utility dogs because of selection process? Thousands and thousands.............. Okaaaaaay! When a breeder of SL that wants top performance and sticking with the Canto/Quanto lines to do it figures out selection process...then they will be worshipped! Hope I live to see it!

No, that's not what I was explaining.  I'm not saying you can squeeze gold from a turd, just saying how the turd came to be.  The selection processes used have altered the genepool enough over the generations to suit the priorities that have guided them.  Those misguided priorities and compromises of the "showliners" are the cause of failure, not the genetic bottlenecking that is incidental in the process.  You can bottleneck "healthy" genes all you want, without detrimental effects.  You can also sooner identify the presence of, and purge adverse mutations earlier on when tight linebreeding is a part of your practice.  But, if you're linebreeding on so-and-so because he comes from a "reputable and well respected" kennel, accompanied with great career accomplishments, has characteristic features that win the judges over, feel it's ok he's produced an unusually high number of bad hips or elbows because his gait is "so marvelous", then by your selection criteria, order of priorities and qualities worth compromise, YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG.

Gotcha!

What forms does the "purging" take? That is an area of debatable ethics in the way those are handled. And the fact that what is purged maybe should never have been conceived in the first place? It isn't like a dog is some lower level life form. The faults do get exaggerated with inbreeding!

Daryl,
You are entitled to your opinions, just as everyone else is. You may not agree with me & MY choices, but that's fine because quite frankly I wouldn't ever buy a dog from you or your breeding as I don't agree with YOUR choices. That's one of the great things you get with free-will. I can go my way & you can go yours.
However I didn't make this thread to debate the pros & cons of my choice, so please go start your own thread. I just simply asked for any breeders that are currently having or planning Fero free litters.

To those that gave suggestions & pm'd me breeders to look into, thank you. I now have a nice list of breeders to look into & all have breeding programs that I can respect.

Well i don't know if it would fit this thread, but I am getting a puppy from Germany out of Aiko Canil Dharma Kokx  and Onja vom Eselsburg. Just for the reason it is Fero free, and I knew the Sire and Dam personally. Serious dogs that would suit sport and be good enough to be personal dogs as well.

Aiko  Has Fero in his pedigree, Onja is not in the PDB

Easy folks, just using an arbitrary extreme example to emphasize a point, not change the subject.

Well, how did the arbitrary 1-2 breedings that you have done worked out?  What great traits did you get and what great traits did both dogs have to begin with to make them breed worthy to start?
