To be clear, I never blamed Fero for screamers.  I think it may have come through Fero progeny with other lines.  I can tell you exactly which lines my dog came from and worked other dogs from the same well known German working line kennel that also screamed.  Do all of their dogs scream, absolutely not.  I have seen Fero free dogs that scream.

I also agree completely that he was a great stud and produced outstanding offspring and certainly left a very positive stamp on the working GSD as a whole.  Just the same I still would not want any dog, even Fero 17 or 18 times in 7 generations.

Who ever blamed Fero for ALL screamers?......Can people not read?....or are they so defensive about things they must exaggerate their response to a point that it distorts the original premise. People who have seen and worked hundreds of working dogs over past 20 years have seen the increased screamer type of dog.....and very very often the common denominator will be dogs on both side of pedigree going back to Fero. Doesn't mean ALL screamers are going back to Fero but if a high enough percent is it is something to be considered if a future breeding is only going to increase this input....ya think? I have been to seminar and events with respected people on this board and seen dogs worked and immediately said to person.....lotta Fero in that pedigree.....every time I have been right. I have done this at least ten times and every time  Fero was on both sides of pedigree. That doesn't mean there are not dogs out there with Fero on both sides that DONOT scream....please!.
but there is a definite corellation, and I am not the only one who has noticed. Furthermore, prior to the quest for insane drive and point driven competition, which preceded Fero, you very very seldom saw the screaming type dog in protection work.

Yeah, that's like 13% to 28% Fero, as much genetic influence as being a grandson or great grandson of Fero, with over 2000% chance of any detrimental recessive genes FROM Fero to have meanwhile come to surface...  and perhaps some or many lines from him did, and have been culled or backtracked.  THAT is why linebreeding is done; to test the purity of the line, and to bring consistency into a breeding.  It's the UNKNOWN factors in your breeding that should concern you, when you bring something unfamiliar into your lines that could be carrying who knows what.  Unless, that is, you're disposed toward an out of sight, out of mind kind of mentality about breeding.

Part of the reason there is so much Fero is that Hubert bred to anyone that had $500.00. He kept breeding him even after his breed book was full. But that was not the problem, the problem is the obscene line breeding on a few of his sons. Hubert told me "do not line breed him"  and guess what we have now, A lot (not all) but a lot  of unbalanced prey monger dogs and some of these can not be pets because they can not cap there drive at all.

To balance Fero out Hubert bought a male named Pirry vom Elfenschloß  to put hardness and aggression back into the Fero breeding. But Pirry was too much for him and he sold him, to me.  Pirry was the the best and hardest dog I have ever seen. I hope I have his replacement in this Bomber female.

@Paul....like I was saying!....thx for first hand knowledge!  Nothing is ever absolute, but when you see certain things sooooooo many times you don't need peer review periodicals to come to conclusions. Least I don't ....Wink Smile.

All that being said I would rather have Fero 20 times in 7 gen then some back yard American bred POS. just sayin
