JMoore, don't lose your will to strive for perfection. It's not easy (some will say impossible!) but you surely end up closer than one who doesn't even try. The things you're asking of the dog are admirable and ought to not be so hard to find...it's a fun journey. I'm happy with the dogs I have at this point (still of course striving for better) but never would've been so if I had not had the same drive to strive for perfection early on in my endeavors.

Perfection is like the movie "10" .. it is all smoke and mirrors for idiots.  The perfect police k9, the perfect military k9, the perfect explosives dog, the perfect drug dog, the perfect apprehension dog, the perfect IPO dog, the perfect KNPV dog, the perfect Belgian Ring dog, etc, etc, etc.  They are all different dogs physically and mentally .. some slight differences and some big differences .. there is no perfect GSD and there is no "10".

I would exercise extreme skepticism for any breeder that has nothing more to offer than words.

you will hear much talk about real gsd and the berlin wall and the czech border and, and, and....

simply ask them to show you and to show you that in what they have produced.

i put dog breeders somewhere above snake oil salesmen and somewhere below used car salesmen.

at least the used car salesmen have to show you something that actually works.

I would also add Malinda Weber (weberhausgsd.com) in the list of excellent Czech, DDR breeders.  If you are in the midwest you can come out and watch all her dogs in action during training.

I know trying to find a perfect GSD is impossible, as nothing is perfect.  I agree about the breeders claiming perfect, Berlin Wall line along with others.  I will look into Linda Webers kennel also.  I haven't heard of her yet...But that doesn't mean anything.  I just started looking into WL breeders about 6 months ago.

Jenni78, your comment makes perfect sense and thank you.

Thanks for all the advice.

I would be interested to see what czech lines do not contain WG blood.

vk4gsd,

There are not many anymore....unfortunantly! As I really love the Czech lines.... my female is mostly Czech.... she does have some WG workinglines. Her name is Aida vom Dukenheim.... she is the one in my avitar.

The "pure" Czech dogs are harder and harder to find.... like the "pure" DDR dogs... but there are still some breeders that breed the pure Czech or even DDR lines.
