I see many in shelters :(  Gorgeous ! I always assume they are from German lines as I have never seen any am breds that have that coloring. They have sables, but not like that!

Some of the working line dogs seem to have an added darkening factor to soot or tar up the legs though.

Aria also can appear black when she is out of coat in low light. I actually had a puppy buyer get here (so obviously due to timing she was quite bald) and ask who she was...confused me for a second, I said "that's his mom, Aria" and they said, "Oh, I thought she was sable." LOL...

 

Yes, there are Blacksables in Am bred lines but not as dark as the one that was posted! That one was breathtakingly beautiful!

 

This is a dog I call a "black sable" -- Sumo von der Dewhaus. He's darker than Aria, but not by a whole lot.

 

The first pic the von Harley dog is amazing very nice its almost like they used spray paint for bald men like I need to use and I thought I had a very dark sable.

Both of Bosco's parents carry for black; he has very beautiful black sisters. Just to be pedantic, I prefer the phrase "melanistic sable" to black sable.
