yeah strange i have seen some awesome american breeds that are doing better in euro than in the states re banndog world.

hey it is weird, the US has done more to preserve and improve the ACD than has been done in it's own country. in fact you will rarely find real stockmen that consider the ACD a working dog anymore in aus, but the north americans have done a great job with them from what i can tell.

since you seem to be involved in other breeds any chance you know of some good breeders of caucasian ovcharka? we are considering another one.  Working breeders that still pay attention to how the animal at least looks.

eurosport seems to be in transition, my dog is from their stock on one side. i think the owners got divorced and things are not like they were atm.

sitasmom had a terrible time with a dog from them, sick dog, breeder no support or sumthin, check the facts on that, i do not want to misrepresent anyone.

the CO is not a dog i have ever had the plaeasure of seeing, i sure like the good ones i have seen on the internet. too much thick coat tho for my hot climate, would be cruel to own one.

don't worry the CO has already been exploited and mass produced the quality has suffered. you need to go to ukraine/russia and see evrything live in person.

nobody alive in the dog world can be trusted without personal face to face imo.

i heard it was good also until taunya left

maybe i can apply for her position? lol

THE BUlgaria import i have turned out great. He was born in russia though.

yeah they need lots of land and do good with livestock and have lots of energy not a house dog at all which is why they do good here with the horses and livestock. A good job to do. They protect the lamas also.

Had a group of dog torture a lama and eat it alive wiill never happen again, so much for donkey and a lama being "guard animals"  They are just lunch for dogs.  They can fend of coyotes or maybe a couple of medium sized dogs. WE also have EMU who love to kick and smash things.

My gsds are the house dogs.

maybe it will rebuild, sure did a good thing by the breed while it lasted imo.

shame to see it dissapear due to personal reasons. but that is life huh.

by vk4gsd on 21 November 2014 - 21:11

i hope the CO does not get selected for the US mass market tastes, or it will be another greaat working dog become a cartoon of itself.

around here farmers employ a lot lama or alapca (can't remeber which is which) as livestock guardians for sheep, them things are seriously vicious and excllent guradians, they are often supported by dogs.

it is not unusual for hundreds of sheep to be slaughtered in a few hours by wild dogs killing and maiming for fun/thrill kills.

me too they are great dogs kinda dual purpose because not only will he protect the pets big animals like horses but he will protect rabbits and chickens, they will killl smaller things like snakes and coons and dispatch them quick. They can dispatch a large dog very fast, the thick thick fur and skin I think helps them out also, so it is not a fight its just a quick death.

HE will also protect fiercLY from people protect from theft do good sentry work, can be used in all sorts of protection type work, but not as dual purpose as a shepherd and he does not have the fight drive of a good shepherd either much more defense and much more dirty he would just go straight for the persons face and he can reach it lol  FIla was a lot the same very dirty fighter not a public dog very sharp only for a lot of land and to help out the animals. I have never lost a single bird or baby goat even since i have them. The donkey and lama protection was way overrated. Even they would stand behind the dogs when they feel scared. We get cougars here also. The dogs deter the cougars with fierce barks.  The cougars just find easier prey not interested in the fuss.

A good shepherd would stay in a fight a lot longer and use tactic and fighting skills kinda like a martial arts fighter of the dog world they use their brains a lot when fighting a person while they beastly dogs just smash bite try to kill no thinking.

the LGD is actually having a resurgence for a lot of reasons. there presence is usually enough and it takes away the need for so much barbaric traps and killing of wild animals looking for an easy meal. the natural preservation policies have seen an increase in a lot of predators.

I would rather have LGD as deterrent and still have wild predators living out their lives, traps and poison I can not agree with. a well run operation the LGD should only ever have to deter not fight.

on the down side a lot of idiots with fighting breeds have allowed their mutts to get loose and mix with wild predator species, theses are a huge problem cos they do not fear man so much as wild species and do a lot more damage.
