Sorry, Hexe, just read your question: The breed surveys are published in the "mein SV" = "my SV" section. I think you need to be a member, but just try it. But for detailed information you still need to visit the breed survey, read the breed survey book, or ask the owner of the dog to see the "Körbericht" ( that´s something everybody should do prior to breeding or buying a dog ).

Dog1, the workingline owners feel handicapped because of the show, and the showline owners feel handicapped because of the trial.
You are right, it´s a lot of work to prepare a dog for both, out of this reason people tend to stick in their comfort zone.
And neither the owners of top workinglines nor top showlines want to loose their face...

gsdstudent:

A few years ago, I was limited in my show and training efforts by a few heart problems.  I now have 7 stents in my heart.  Immediately following the heart problems, I had 17 inches of my colon removed to help me survive Colon Cancer . Immediately prior to those to maladies, I had dogs entered in the first two Universal Sieger Shows held in this country. I don't recall ever hearing of you then or even last year. Surely you are inately magnanimous in your superfluos breeding creations and I expect to see you in the paramount position on the podium this year at Purina Farms. Regrettably, I will not be a competitor this year or in years to come.  If I were able, you can bet your favorite fursaver that I and one of my dogs would be in the fray and giving our best to make you look like "Ned in the First Reader"..  I want or expect no special recognition and I expect that you don't either. But,  I say that to say, how are you and your dogs doing, "Big Boy"!

Sorry, I might have made a mistake,  I assumed you were male.

As a guy with no filter, I can honestly say I could care less what others think of me or my dog. I've been down a similar road to Ricahrd. I've had 5 stents, a quadruple bypass and a pacemaker/difibrilator implanted. These things, along with my geographical location have hindered my training. Do I make excuses for my "Red" dog? Nope! I shamelessly post my videos of my not perfect work on my FaceBook page for all to see. I'm damn prouid of where I have gotten with my "Red" dog. Is he "Bundessieger" worthy? Nope! But he's a fine specimen of a German Shepherd Dog with a mediocre handler/trainer. I can only imagine how good he may have been with a better trainer.

All that said, I can't wait to compete in the Universal Sieger competition!

sorry richard to cause you to use your dictionary for your rebuttal. I poke a little fun at some of the posts I find as propaganda. I notice a little trick where Blitz brings up a subject so Richard M can promote an event for the GSDCA. WHy not just make it an adv for the event than a fake thread?

by hexe on 12 January 2015 - 20:01

When we can't even have a discussion on the subject without it turning into a pissing match, does anyone really think that the bulk of the workingline breeders are going to put more emphasis on conformation and getting their dogs ring-ready so they will always be awarded V ratings at the breed shows, and an equal number of the show line breeders are going to put more emphasis on selecting and training for dogs that will consistently pull 98's in the protection phase of trials, just so either group can claim the Universal Sieger & Siegerin titles every year?

by gsdstudent on 12 January 2015 - 20:01

hey, hexe, sorry, my first responce was sincere. A breed survey is far more important to the breed than a Universal championship. I bit on the thread not realizing it was to promote an event. Now I see the method. Both are important , Universal champ will not help correct the breed as well as the breed survey.  The event should be promoted.

by Blitzen on 12 January 2015 - 20:01

Darn, you got me, Student. Richard and are are the best of friends and I set up every post so we can recruit members for the GSDCA. How ever did you figure that out, smartie pants?

by hexe on 12 January 2015 - 20:01

Well, Blitzen, that makes sense, since the GSDCA is a poverty-stricken organization that can't afford to pay for advertising and is in danger of folding if more members aren't drummed up. Get out there and beat the bushes to scare up more dues, girl!

I agree with Dog1's comments with one caveat; it is certainly NOT biased toward the working line dog (universal Sieger competitions).

On the contrary; any show line who's capable of LEGITIMATE SG work at the national level will automatically win or be very close to winning this event.  The problem is with the demonstrable exception of maybe 3 or 4 in the world there are no show lines capable of this level of work.

What will eventually kill the competition in my opinion is the gradual defection of top European working talent when they see any show line dog entered AUTOMATICALLY placed at the front of the pack regardless of their relative quality.

I have personally benefitted from this "fact" so no bias or agenda directed toward either "side."

Kevin
