I disagree about dogs with a straight back having short, steep croups. In my experience, it's often the one with arched backs that have steep croups. Here's a few good examples

a

Sorry if you need some brain bleach, especially after that last one!

And no, a 4-square stack is NOT going to straighten out the back in some of these more extreme dogs. This one is half-way between four-square and a standard GSD stack, but it's quite obvious its back is never going to have the 'gentle curve' the standard now calls for:

This dog is a UKC championship. I was considering showing in UKC until I saw this picture:

Please do not let this thread become a bash fest unless you wish to post your own dog.

My two females, both with straight backs. Eska's croup does appear a bit short and steep, but 5 months is not the best age to evaluate a pup's conformation. I need to get more recent photos of her.

Just so you know I'm not picking on the GSLs, here's a few with really nice toplines, most of them V or VA rated:

Okay, I'm not a huge fan of the head on the second dog, but the rest of  him is very nice. He was the Irish sieger.

I also realize this is not the sort of dog Smiley is looking for. The dogs she likes are lighter boned, more like the dogs of the '50s and '60s.

So you know this is not her type why post. She told us her type and that is what she is looking for not the ones she does not like.

I like your black pup

Wow......the bashing of UKC is not cool for so many reasons....

The V/VA dogs you posted have way too much angulation for my taste and I prefer more type regarding the others you posted.

I guess I am on an island with wanting a moderate, balanced dog with a beautiful expression and classic type and I'm, apparently, the only one who sees dogs today that are very segregated into specific types.

Ok, I'm going to leave the thread now as it is not constructive towards meeting the original purpose of the thread. Thank you all who shared thoughts...whether they were positive or not....I respect your opinions but we will have to agree to disagree on several points.

Thanks,

Sarah

any org that rewards and acknowledges dog owners for doing controlled activities with poochy is fine by me.
