Blitz agree with you I won't judge SL unless I'm looking straight at one .and the ill judge what I know best nerve and the bite. I don't read pedigree I'm with dogs all the time. I am all WL but appreciate a good SL you will know the bull shitters and so will most when they ask a question just to conner op .The questions will always be aggressive and your answer never good enough. You seem to me to be a smart lady . By the way if you have done something special with a SL talk about it every chance you get its not argent it's pride been argent is thinking u have nothing to learn 😜

You're a good man, Yogi, (even if you do prefer WL's Wink Smile). I'll just have to try to get past that!!

by vk4gsd on 19 July 2015 - 22:07

just to clarify;

"For what it's worth, I think Yogi has the essence of the SL problem explained. What good is a lot of activity if you can't back it up? Here's where I feel the SL dogs identified rise to the top. They have good but not over the top drive. They even show signs of pressure as more is asked of them. A good one will stand there and work through it."

desite the more shrill outbursts i would like to know the basis for this claim so we all might learn.

how is "rise" measured and what what pile are they the "top" of.

how is that not a fair question for anybody interestedn the breed?????????????????????????????????????????????????

by Blitzen on 19 July 2015 - 23:07

What the hell are you talking about, vk? Give it a rest?

"I fully understand that drive and workability is a matter of how a dog is raised and trained. More examples of breeders that do a good job at this are welcome."

Wrong, it is a matter of genetics.  You dont train drive or workability, its intrinsic to the dog and achieved through selecting and using proper stock in your breeding program.  This is why SLs are pets, and even many WLs are falling short of the mark these days.

This is why the Malinois is becoming the preeminent working dog of choice and is also on the ascent in IPO.

Lack of video is not the issue whether its for SLs, WLs or Mals.  The issue is the videos tell a story that many dont want to hear..:-).  Ofcourse you had to be there!

Well I have been there, in the training and trialing, and many of the vids are putting lipstick on a pig.

i just wanted to say i have a vegas grandaughter that has great drive , very high , but also shows a bit of nerves issues , a little bit not right up stairs, he temp is ok, her movement seems good, well will have to show her and see how she does not sure if  she will shy from the judge,  she has a very strong bond to me and was easy to obedience train.she is now 2. , she is line bred on yasko, i also have a male show line pup  9 months that shows very good promise for IPO , he seems very sure of himself, good drive and decent bite only time will tell with him.

VK,

I'm with you now. Let me explain what I meant in my comment. I'll expand the thought a little.

Showlines with good abilities, the abilities that a trainer will take and put the time and effort into are few and far between. When one comes along, they usually find their way to someone that can work them or they go to the pound as being too much for the family and some vet or AKC trainer told the people they had a dangerous dog and off it goes. Those that find their way to be trained, rise to the top. They turn out to be decent dogs as they have someone that can train them take the time to do it.

To expand this further, over time those dogs seem to have something in common. They are from the same families of dogs that have been identified as one of those that tends to pass the abilities on. These dogs were indentifed in the thread referenced previously and in addition I feel confident we can add Enzo Buchorn and his descendents. I think we may be seeing Odin making his way on the list through dogs like Universal Competitor Ballack, Hatto, and in the US, Wenzel.

ok, wasn't following as first written, gotcha.

Thanks for clarifying, makes sense.

by Mackenzie on 20 July 2015 - 04:07

vk - You have asked many questions of people on this thread but I would be interested in knowing how you would respond in detail  to those same questions if they were put to you.  What about it, are you up for it?
