Oh. ok, so blame the dogs ,  not breeders and judges and senior officials in the WUSV ???

Amended to ADD:   ...or owners who can't be arsed to train diligently ?

How many SL have you seen compete, Yogi? Any clue of their bloodlines since that what most of us are interested  in right now.  Maybe if  you could name the shows I could find their names in  the show reports?  They would be the dogs that didn't qualify - right? They would certainly be the SL dogs most would want to avoid in their breeding programs.

When making a statement regarding any dogs ability and characteristics -no matter whether its show or workingline- pls give one or more example, otherwise the statement will simply pass by as a hollow phrase. I wanna hear names and see pedigrees regarding this topic.

There certainly are differences in GSL in drive, temper, movement and anatomy. One look at the toplines, pigmentation, bone structure, topline and withers is enough to tell that. Least of all GSLs are the same, the certainly is a great variety and there is a trend in Germany towards using less and less VA studs.

Also the link Blitzen and Dog1 shared show many GSLs with outstanding bites.

More examples of GSLs that are currently worked, bred and shown are welcome (other bloodlines as well)

blitzen i dont go to any major shows. But in the club iv seen many dogs getting ready for competions. alot of are slow ,slopy, bites are week  only 2weeks ago i seen a sl dog been sold videos were been made every single stage of the videos were cut retakeing. Bite work .Done before obedience so the dog did not lose drive .Took ten min to get the dog on a bite suit so they could see the civil Dog was burnt out very quick that dog was in every show ino and won most  now been sold for loads of money  .AND AT THE END OF IT THE THREE PEOPLE INVOLVED SAID AND I QUOTE THIS IS A HONEST DOG .Thats my last view of a sl drive and work abilty as i have said before i dont care about pedigree i care about honesty of the dog .And showline are shown slow drives .And on the other side some wl show to much drive and cant switch off

Quote from Blitzen, ".......name the shows I could find their names in  the show reports?  They would be the dogs that didn't qualify - right? They would certainly be the SL dogs most would want to avoid in their breeding programs."

Choosing dogs for breeding based on show performance on paper, without SEEING the dog in person is to the demise of the breed.
First, Why didn't the dog qualify?
Second, Avoiding dogs for breeding program based on a show report is distructive to the whole breed. That's why the breed is where it is today.

I'd take Yogi's and others I trust words for it. If he said, "I myself have seen this specific dog and I don't think it's a good worker because" then I'd want to know why and the dog's name. However, if it's just one of those "generally SL's suck" statements, they I'd just laugh and move on Teeth Smile.

Yogi, honestly don't you think that many people misrepresent their GSD's? Let's forget all about bloodlines, let's rise above that crap for once and talk about the breed in general and how they are marketed to the public and potential buyers.

Theres a thread on AlpineK9 where Hans posted a link to a video of bitework at a recent Seiger Show. The degree of avoidance and lack of power in many of the dogs as they approached the decoy is palpably sad. Maybe Hans can post the link here.
