Jim H, you are totally right here - LACK OF COMMUNICATION BETWEEN CLUBS AND THEIR MEMBERS is one of the biggest problems that exists in this Country regarding these ANY ISSUES that crop up - we never hear from them.

We are members of 2 Scottish Clubs and members of the GSD League yet we hear nothing from them about all these matters.  We are required to wait till the news comes through the National Magazine, since when did this become the way to communicate with members of Clubs.  NOT ALL MEMBERS BUY THE MAGAZINE OR THE DOG PAPERS.  As you said E-MAIL is the fastest and most efficient way of communicating with the majority of members of a Club, some may not have this service, but those that don't could have postal communications which costs a few pence.  As DAVID PAYNE states APATHY RULES IN THE UK and he is UNDISPUTABLY CORRECT HERE.

Another problem in the UK is FEAR - fear of losing the status some of the big kennels THINK THEY HAVE - bullshit - you are just a vulnerable as the rest of us.  What happens now - will there be more favours given in the next 3 years to QUICKLY MAKE UP THEIR DOGS TO CHAMPION just in case the KC dump us and the Breed goes down the pan - yes I can see it clearly now - the rest of us can go to hell.  Think of this first though - it is us LITTLE PEOPLE - the WEE COGS -  who keep you in Shows.  Get your heads out of the sand and put the Breed first before your vanity, greed and ambition.

It is the duty of every Club to inform its members of MAJOR ISSUES that occur in the Breed, that is what we pay our subs for - however how many Scottish Clubs have actually met with their members and discussed these issues - I would put my money on NONE.

Another issue is that there only seems to be dialogue between certain parties on this Forum and they TOTALLY IGNORE other people who have put forward their ideas and opinions BECAUSE WE ARE NOT BIG ENOUGH IN THEIR EYES, WE HAVE MADE NO MARK ON THE BREED because we have not made up a Champion, bred 100s of litters or judged in the Ring.  The REAL TRUTH is the wee people are not able to do favours back to those big cheeses - so we are cast aside as not worthy of talking to - WELL WAKE UP you people out there that think the Breed is a CLOSED SHOP - it is most certainly not and you know it.

The GSD's future is on the line - step up to the mark and give your opinion on this whichever way you can - via the Press, the Public, the Dog Papers, the Mag, the forums, at Shows, by e-mail - go on surprise yourselves.

IDEA - WORTH A TRY IS IT NOT

How about every Exhibitor or Breeder takes their CORRECT TO STANDARD GSD down to the Town Centre on a Saturday, set up your stall - put up a big notice and a HUGE PICTURE of a INCORRECT GSD and ask the PUBLIC TO CHOOSE which dog they would rather buy - the one with the health schemes behind it, the fitness and stamina to be a real pet  or THE OTHERS?  Everytime I go out the house with my dogs for a walk and we are asked questions we answer them honestly and we educate the public, perhaps not on purpose, but by being honest and up front about the Breed's faults.

Anyway off to do some chores before I get my P45 from my family for neglecting them (DOH!!).

Hi Jim h and All,

Much work was put into the Breed Health initiative that was revealed to ALL VIA a Power Point presentation at the last BC Meeting, NOTHING WAS PUT FORWARD TO THE KC OR SET IN STONE until THE GSD PEOPLE or in this case THE GSD CLUB REPS who in turn were representing 'The GSD People' were COLLECTIVELY INFORMED IN DOCUMENTED DETAIL and had VOTED IN FAVOUR of it.

Ideas might appear overnight but putting a detailed, documented plan together does not. Anybody and Everybody are entitled to an idea and to them prepare it ready to present to all others. If someone has a good idea then set it out in detailed, documented format and send it or present it where necessary in order for it to be viewed, discussed and preferably voted upon by all. Hand it to your Breed Club to adopt and for them to then put it forward to the GSD Breed Council, that is how you should use your Breed Club and in turn that is how the Breed Council should be used to VOICE THE OPINIONS OF ALL OF YOU.  Writing on here is great for airing your views and sometimes for getting a general gist of peoples opinions but as far as putting plans into action writing on here has ABSOLUTELY NO VALUE WHATSOEVER. It wont get your idea or plan into a position where it can be actioned, voted upon and possibly turned into a feasable or even  readily workable reality. As far as GETTING THINGS DONE is concerned, writing on here is tantermount to A LOAD OF HOT AIR and nothing more.  Sorry if this offends anyone but that is the ABSOLUTE TRUTH OF THE MATTER. Only if someone else picks up and runs with an idea put on here and puts lots more work into it, places it where necessary to get it aired, voted on and accepted can anything come from here but it still takes someone willing to put a lot more work into it than just write it down on here.

At the Breed Council Meeting the Clubs gave the GSD Partnership A MANDATE to go forward to the KC with the New Health Initiative and then later to also write to the KC regarding this recent letter. If you have read the Dog World link I put up for this week I think you can get some idea of the content and tone of the letter that went to the KC from what the paper quotes from John Cullen.

When I asked you all to be patient and wait a bit, I did so because the GSD Partnership are still in the process of doing what they have been mandated to do, their well may have to be a Plan B but it would need very careful consideration with many things been put into place before it became feasable enough to offer up to the Clubs and besides one doesnt offer up and/or reveal a possible Plan B until all hope of Plan A is lost !!  Thats the way it would work in Business and if you want your representatives to conduct themselves in a Business like manner then what they are doing at the moment is carrying out what they have so far been Mandated to do, which is exactly what they should be doing.

CONTINUED FROM PREVIOUS POST

What I mean about being patient is to let the letters already exchanged and the arranged meetings to take place and if you all want to know what is going on the fairest way to inform everybody at the same time is via the Breed Council Magazine and via your Breed Clubs but certainly NOT THIS SITE. For one thing not everyone has access to the internet and of those that do because of the 'vindictive nasties' constantly lurking here many choose not to access this site (or at least not its messageboards).

Finally, you all know an email address or telephone number of at least one of those acting withinin the GSD Partnership why not contact them with your documented ideas or even just to ask What stage they are at. Sorry if I sound a bit snappy today but I really dont know what some expect to happen, its only being 2 wks since the KC letter and the BC meeting, for goodness sake before accusing people of doing nothing, give them a chance to action out what they have already been mandated to do.

Best Regards,
Sue b

Hi sue i agree with what you have said re this forum and the back biting it produces and we all know that KC members will look at posts etc but were we not saying that the partnership was a wash out and would let the KC walk over them remember the dropping of the horrible word alsation that they suposedly got but some how they have'nt now surely the league should at least have something on their site about this and the other 2 as well if we are to win this so called war then as you said we all need to sing from the same hymn sheet but to do that we all need to see the words and not blank sheets of paper    We really are a disorganised mob are we not i am also a member of a scottish club and the league but so far have heard nothing from either re this letter or anything else come to that we have all heard the saying divide and conquer well that is what will happen to us if we dont get our act together and keep every body informed as to what if any thing is being done  because if not then i see a very bleak future for our breed

I DO THINK WE HAVE TO DO SOMETHING AS WE CANNOT BE DICTATED TO WHY DOES BRITAIN THINK IT HAS THE RIGHT TO CHANGE ANY BREED STANDARD . WE COULD BREAK AWAY I WONDERD HOW MANY OTHER BREEDS WOULD FOLLOW AS REGARDS TO DOUBLE HANDLING A FRIEND OF MINE HAD HER HUSKY IN THE RING BEING HANDLED BY SOMEONE ELSE AND SHE TOLD HER HANDLER TO GET HER HEAD UP MY FRIEND WAS PROMPTLY TOLD BY THE JUDGE THAT SHE WAS DOUBLE HANDLING AND COULD BE DISQUILIFIED. SO WILL BE INTERESTING TO SEE WHAT THE OUTCRY WILL BE IF THEY START TO STOP ATTRACTION OF ANY SORT. WHICH THEY SHOULD DO . GOOD POST AILEEN

Hi Aileen
I dont think anyone could call you one of the Wee ones, well I certainly wouldnt anyway !! I actually thought you were a Secretary of a Breed Club or at least on a Club Committee, so was a bit surprised when reading your last post to realise that you weren't.
As for Breed Clubs informing every member indidvidually about things, I rather think that's a bit of a tall order and that it would be far better for each individual that wants certain information to get in contact with their club rather than the other way around. My reasons for this are three fold ;-
1. Firstly I rather think your Club membership subs would soon be exhausted if the Secretary had to contact you all individually everytime a letter of some importance was recieved and at times like this that could be quite a regular event.
2. Secondly, it would also add considerably to the Secretaries workload, how many letters would they need to print and address? Remember this is a voluntary job with quite enough of a workload already for any volunteer (especially if your club committee holds regular monthly meetings), without creating more.
3.  Thirdly, some club members would neither be bothered nor interested in recieving information on certain topics (especially those who do not show and are not interested in showing or have only joined in order to get a KC ABS Accolade),  so it would save both time and money for the club if the individual members contacted the club when they wanted information rather than the other way around, that way at least you would know if there was any information available to be passed onto you. No point in saying your club isnt informing you if it has nothing more to inform you about than what you already know.

Aileen, Re- your idea's  you posted above, why not put them down in proposal form and send them to your club Secretary so they can put it to the committee at their next meeting?  Its good to read them but unless you are going to take them further they are wasted on here.  Just a thought !!
All the best.

The KC is a Private Ltd Company it only needs 1 shareholder and 1 director unlike Public Ltd Companies

I have to say something here

SMC - WHY DOES BRITAIN THINK IT HAS THE RIGHT TO CHANGE ANY BREED STANDARD .

Because we live in Britian!!! simple answer....whether it be right or wrong THAT has nothing to do with it...we are here and we should abide by its rules and regulations.

This is fast becoming a 'NEW BOYS CLUB'.  All I read are  'oh i agree with so and so' or ' oooh that's a great idea' or ; I'd back that  one' and the worst sucking up ever!

Come on people! please. Listen to Sue B, she has actually go it screwed on. She asked for patience and all that is going on is crap.

I dread the thought of leaving one orginisation known for disorganisation and bigotry for another that is ran by people, all beit passionate but COULD NOT AGREE ON THE COLOUR OF SHITE!!!!!

Come on...we have to pull back, think, calmly and carefully and market this idea across to the people that matter at the moment.......................THE PUBLIC!!!!
