Actually Trotters123, the only people seriously affected by the LETTER of the Kennel Club are the GSD exhibitors (Germanic)
Their Show scene has for many years been in serious decline, and now the Kennel Club, without any justification or pretense at reasonable or responsible behavior, have put a great big knife into the backs of ALL our "voluntary" GSD Club Committees, and ALL of our current dedicated exhibitors, and ALL of our current dedicated spectators.

For such an organisation as the Kennel Club, that has its fair share of pomp and ceremony, and considers itself such a bastion of British Society, with a much sort after "Private Club" at one of the poshest addresses in London, their behavior through that LETTER is nothing short of a NATIONAL DISGRACE.

The GSD Breed should simply and unequivocally demand its withdrawal, and refuse ANY dialogue with them until it is WITHDRAWN. If they refuse then ALL alternatives for our 2012 Championship Shows will need to be explored, and possibly beyond.

For you to assume who may be running the GSD organisation, in place of the Kennel Club, and then go on to presume they could not agree on the colour of shite, is quite frankly a "load of shite".

Patience is a virtue, and tolerance can be a strength, however decent and reasonable behavior is the bedrock of successful working relationships, and if the GSD breed fail to establish the basic principle of decent and reasonable behavior between the Kennel Club and the GSD Breed Partnership or other GSD breed Representatives, then our future together will be fraught with many serious problems and many serious disagreements.

The more I think about the Kennel Clubs decision to suspend the GSDs CCs the more I am seeing their reason for doing so as even more pathetic  ! , and nothing more than a  GIANT SMOKE SCREEN  in order to distract all and the public away from the REAL SERIOUS issues the K.C. should be prioritising eg, the MANY OTHER BREEDS WITH VERY SERIOUS HEALTH ISSUES THAT ARE BEING SHOWN AND BRED FROM UNDER K.C. RULES  !!!!!!!.  It is those breeds that should have their CCs suspended and NOT the GSD !.  I agree the GSD misgivings do need sorting but the GSDs misgivings IN COMPARISON  to other breeds troubles are minor and should be addressed by the K.C. accordingly and put on their to do list in order of importance  !!!!!.        IT JUST SHOWS THE KENNEL CLUB IN THEIR TRUE COLOURS !!!!!!!!!!!.

sybc1: You are correct i your analysis of the Kennel Clubs decision and the reasons behind it.
To publicly bow down to Jemima Harrison (who knows very little or nothing about Pedigree Dog breeding & exhibiting) It is now obvious that any such person only needs to develop the skills of video directing and to direct the editing for sensationalist content, and BANG, such a person is an XSPURT on many Pedigree Dogs, and has the Kennel Club jumping to her every "signal".

Now we wait for the follow up video from Jemima, and its verdict on the Kennel Club reaction to her last insulting indulgence, NO doubt the GSD will figure prominently, the Kennel Club have ensured that. (probably to take the heat of their more favoured breeds). BUT watch and wait, now that the Kennel Club are "dancing to Jemima's tune" she will no doubt "investigate additional breeds of Pedigree Dogs" with her minimal knowledge and experience, and her appetite for sensationalism based on very infrequent problems, for more "glimpses" of sensationalist propaganda opportunities. Her ball is rolling, now watch it "keep on rolling".

The GSD must NEVER dance to Jemima Harrison's "tunes" - whatever form they may take. Sensationalism based on Ignorance and exaggeration of minor and infrequent problems, must never be considered as a basis for change, especially when our existing breed standard and Judging practices, may already adequately deal with them. Any changes we suggest to our breed standard or Judging practices need to be carefully considered, and following consultation with the Kennel Club, and also the SV.

The Kennel Club GSD Breed Standard does NOT even include the DISQUALIFICATION DENTITION FAULTS, now guess which "GSD faction" that was designed to help?

The Kennel Club GSD Breed Standard includes the word (Alsatian) in its title. This is a continuing insult to our GSD breed, and the SV.

THIS IS TO THE KENNEL CLUB AND ALL ITS FOLLOWERS  !!!!!!!.

YOU HAVE TAKEN AWAY THE CCs FROM THE GERMAN SHEPHERD BREED FOR RELATIVELY MINOR ISSUES.

BECAUSE OF YOUR DECISION TO DO THIS YOU MUST NOW HAVE THE COURAGE OF YOUR CONVICTIONS AND TAKE AWAY THE CCs FROM ALL THE BREEDS THAT ARE SUFFERING VERY BADLY FROM MAJOR HEALTH DISORDERS  !!!!!!!!!.  IF YOU DO NOT DO THIS THEN YOU MUST RESTORE THE CCs TO THE GERMAN SHEPHERD BREED WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT  !!!!!!!.

HOW DO YOU, THE KENNEL CLUB THINK THE PUBLIC ARE GOING TO PERCIEVE THIS ( THE TRUTH ) WHEN IT IS PUT IN BLACK & WHITE IN ALL THE NEWS PAPERS  ???????.

svbc1, my thoughts exactly!!!  I truly believe the LETTER  from the KC was in the hope attention would be taken off them, and thier draconian system. I truly hope it comes right back at them and bites them in the rear end.  It is way long overdue that  the KENNEL CLUB got exposed for what they really are. Liz

PONDER ON THIS PEEPS - ANSWERS ON A POSTCARD OR FORUM

DOUBLE HANDLING (OR ATTRACTING DOGS THAT ARE IN THE RING)

The subject of “double handling” or attracting a dog which is being exhibited inside the ring is the REAL issue the KC have against Germanic GSD Exhibitors -

HOWEVER THEY SHOULD PONDER ON THE FOLLOWING POINTS

1. FACT.
Germanic GSD Show People double handle their dogs whilst the dogs are inside the rings being shown and the handlers of these dogs DO NOT double handle INSIDE THE RING.

2. FACT.
A large percentage of Owners/Breeders & Exhibitors of Germanic type dogs ARE ALSO JUDGES – therefore when showing their own dogs or supporting dogs bred by them they DOUBLE HANDLE outside the ring.

THESE JUDGES ARE ON THE BREED COUNCIL LISTS OF JUDGES APPROVED BY THE KC, BUT THE KC EXPECTS THESE JUDGES TO STOP DOUBLE HANDLING WHILST JUDGING – KNOWING ALL THE WHILE THAT WHEN THESE JUDGES ARE SHOWING THEY WILL DOUBLE HANDLE JUST LIKE THE REST OF US AT SHOWS – THIS IS A DOUBLE EDGED SWORD THEY ARE WIELDING – THEY ARE NOT FIT TO RUN THEIR OWN AFFAIRS LET ALONE OURS.

IF THE KC WANT TO STOP US DOUBLE HANDLING – THEN PERHAPS THEY WOULD LIKE TO PUT THEIR COMPLETE HOUSE IN ORDER BEFORE SINGLING OUT ONE BREED – READ BELOW –

JUDGES & HANDLERS WHO DOUBLE HANDLE - INSIDE THE RINGS

1. FACT.
ALL ROUNDERS (JUDGES) also DOUBLE HANDLE – BUT INSIDE THE RING AS DO THE HANDLERS OF DOZENS OF OTHER BREEDS OF DOGS –

How so I hear some of you say – well here is HOW SO – we attended hundreds of Canine and All Breeds shows when we first started showing our dogs at the end of the 80s and into the 90s, and we have witnessed the following WHICH STILL GOES ON TODAY AT ALL BREED SHOWS –

2. FACT.
We have personally, and I am sure you have too, witnessed All Rounder Judges, whilst judging all types of breeds including GSDs doing the following to ATTRACT a dog’s attention

CLAPPING THEIR HANDS IN FRONT OF THE DOGS
TAPPING CLIPBOARDS WITH THEIR PENS                                                                   continued/

by Aileen Ann Mathieson on 09 August 2009 - 00:08

Continued/

THROWING ITEMS TO THE GROUND
PICKING UP A PARTICULAR DOG’S SQUEAKY TOY AND SQUEAKING IT
WHISTLING TO THEM
BLOWING AIR THROUGH THEIR HANDS
CLICKING THEIR FINGERS
MAKING ALL SORTS OF WEIRD NOISES

Several years ago one All Rounder Lady Judge told the spectators at the ring she would Judge the GSDs the Germanic way and in the Open Dog actually asked my husband to ask someone OUTSIDE THE RING TO CALL ON OUR DOG to get his ears up and he won Best Dog at that Show.

DO THESE JUDGES GET PENALISED FOR THIS BEHAVIOUR –NO – NEVER –
They are technically breaking the rules.

3. FACT.
Handlers of all breeds of dogs (APART FROM GERMANIC GSDS) all tease or tempt their charges with food titbits and toys – INSIDE THE RING – this could be construed as DOUBLE HANDLING.

DO THESE HANDLERS GET PENALISED FOR THIS BEHAVIOUR –NO – NEVER –
They are technically breaking the rules.

Often at ALL BREED SHOWS (example the SKC Championship Show) the GSDs are expected to go into the ring AFTER another breed that has had its handlers flinging bits of food about and AFTER ENTIRE BITCHES, who could or are even likely to be in season and expect OUR DOGS AND US to put up with this treatment. This is becoming more and more common at these All Breed shows and it just makes me wonder if this deliberate on the Clubs’ part.

We are also subject to parties from other breeds who DELIBERATELY come to our ring and pass rude and threatening remarks even when their breed is a dozen rings away – DO WE MAKE FORMAL COMPLAINTS – not very often that I know of. We just want to show our dogs the way we have trained them and be left in peace to do it. DO WE GO TO THEIR RINGS AND CRITICISE THEIR METHODS – NO.

I have sat round many a ring whilst waiting for another breed to finish judging so I can enter my dog and I DO NOT make rude and disparaging remarks about THEIR ANTICS and their bad manners.

WE ARE BEING VICTIMISED AND DISCRIMATED AGAINST AND ANYONE WHO SAYS OTHERWISE IS DEAF BLIND AND PRETTY DUMB IN MY OPINION.

All breeds that enter the ring after another - risk the minefield of dropped bait, smells from another sex etc.  I also have a small breed and we suffer worse from dropped bait - as its nearer their noses!

Double handling has a specific definition - that is attraction from outside of the ring, and yes it goes on in many breeds, especially those who have a handler.  It is harder to achieve when an owner/exhibitor handles their own dog and goes to the shows on their own.

I love to watch our GSDs gait out and we are the only breed to gait for any period of time, however I do feel that many lean into their collars and in doing so distort their outline, maybe if we were to get our dogs to gait out on slacker leads then we would be promotion a better image, after all GSDs are herding dogs, not draft dogs.  Possibly some judges get dogs to gait out for far too long, especially with young dogs, and then they get bored.

I do feel that the Kennel Club has sent this letter and raised this issue to divert attention from their lack of back bone on serious problems - in much the same way the Government does when there is a situation they want the public's attention redirected.

Ref double handling,
When Bria won her class at Crufts 2007  She could have been penalized for double handling, some one I did not know started calling my dog when doing her individual and the person next to her complained loudly about her double handling, The female calling had nothing to do with Bria or myself and we had never met.
Later on I saw both females laughing about it.
I have seen this happen at several all-breed champ shows.
