Ok so where do we go from here just what if any thing has the GSD partnership achieved jesus christ they could'ent even get the KC to give us our proper name   Maybe the KC will decide that the breed in this country will be called alsation and we will just have to like it or lump it   We had the chance to change so much in the 80's but did not take it maybe the KC see this as payback time who knows because they see our breed as a thorn in their side

What do the majority of GSD breeders want for the health of this breed
1 the mandatory x-ray and scoring of hips elbows
2, mandatory haemophilia testing of all males (stud)
3,a proper DNA test for parentage
4,a breed survey of class 1 or 2
5,The right name for our breed German Shepherd Dog
6,the proper breed standard as laid down by the SV, WUSV, and the FCI

What does the KC want for the health of this breed none of the above all it wants is your money and your compliance not to double handle your dog    they put more impetus on not double handing than they do on the health and welfare of our dogs
They will never go for mandatory health testing because it will effect their bank balance but they will spend time and money to stop you from calling your dog while it is in the ring       the only sport in the world where you are not allowed to cheer

The KC appear to have concluded that the GSD Breed Council, and consequently the GSD Breed Clubs are a pushover. The KC are aware of the number of excellent, well thought out and comprehensively written, ground breaking and progressive proposals that have been presented to the GSD Breed Council and "scuppered by them", over recent years. This clearly indicated the useless nature of the GSD Breed Council to even ensure any reasonable degree of compliance with certain Kennel Club rules and policies. It also clearly indicated to the KC that the GSD Breed Council would not present any challenge to the Kennel Club in the event that they sent out a letter like the one they have.

I await with interest the advice from our "leaders". I suspect quiet "acquiescence" no matter how well disguised.

Jim, apathy reigns again, not one comment on a breakaway, and what is obviously not apparent to quite a number of people, is that most exhibitors  dont ever get a sniff of a CC, so in theory at least,  it should'nt  bother them,.  At this moment in time we are witnessing meltdown, even at our most Prestigious shows, so what do we have to lose? i myself have had a great time during the last three decades, and been fortunate enough to win at the very highest level, winning classes with  40+  50+  and 60+ exhibits,  now you must believe me when i say, that self praise is no recommendation, this is not me being boastful, or arrogant,  but can there really be any pleasure in winning a class containing six or seven animals? i personlly dont think so, so why not get together and work in unision to bring about a change in our perception in what constitutes a good show, and what does not, if we can put all the bitching and character assassinations aside i think we can,  if not, we will dissapear in spite of KC meddling,  not because of it.  Sometimes we cant see the wood for the trees, at this moment in time we are lost in a forest of apathy, wake up and smell the coffee.

    Regards Paul Rattigan.

Could not agree more paul,, We all need to pull together or we are most certainly doomed we need our leaders to stand up and be counted and if they wont then we need to put the people in their place who will,, and that means all of us putting all our grievences behind us and taking this breed forward and putting the best people in the job to do this

I would like the KC to show us how extreme toplines and wobbly hocks cause ill health.  Its the Alsationists who are less inclinded to have their dogs health screened, and use dogs with high scores.

I am going to stick my head in the firing line re double handling - there is a time and a place for it - and it is inappropriate at all breed shows.  I do have another breed and it is nice to go and have a day out on my own, with other exhibitors without the need for an entourage.  Some people who double handle do forget other people in the vicinity and I myself have been smacked into, as have my children and this in the current litigatious society we live in the double handling provides too many issues to both the show organisers and the person undertaking the double handling. There are many show venues that can accommodate double handling (much in the way that the British Sieger does) but we dont need to be causing issues at the smaller venues.  The smaller venues however dont require the extra gaiting that comes with the bigger rings.

Also many of the dogs show over exaggerated toplines due to forcing themselves into their collars as a result of all the calling and noise.  Balance needs to be brought as transfering out of the KC will see many breeders with dogs that no one wants as many people want the KC registration papers and it will not be easy educating "Joe Public" to an alternative registration system, after all many dont grasp the crucial aspects of the health  screening undertaken.

It is time that the KC recognised that the German Shepherd Dog originates from Europe and the current image should be in keeping with the country of origin.  They need to find some back bone and stand up in accordance with the rest of the world.

It seems to me that the KC have called the 'bluff' of all the respected clubs i.e. League, BAGSDS, and the Breed Council, and as I have just come back into the breed after a break of 15 years, the same people are running those organisations that were running them in the 80's, the Breed Council was set up to face the KC with breed issues regarding health and the way we ran our shows, with the double handling.  Yes I was there at Weston Park and Wales and even in Scotland for the first two day shows and 'WOW' the classes and the atmosphere was brilliant.  I have been to just a couple of shows and I was lucky enough to be placed at a recent show.  However after explaining to my daughter what it would be like the entries were very small in comparison to those heady days.  I understand that economics are a big factor in showing these days and yes you need an entourage not just at the show but to do all the training and I am 15 years older!!  Also from where I have come back in, it is deja vu regarding the issues with the breed and the Kennel Club, so not a lot has changed.

It seems to me this is make or break time either we put our money where our mouths are or shut up and put up with being called Alsation.

The two day show in Wales is coming up in August, I am sure that part of a marquee would be available to have a meeting of exhibitors and maybe and invitation to those who also have our breeds interests at heart.  There needs to be a plan formulated, so far all I have seen is a load of bluster which generally degenerates into a slagging match of who shouts and lasts longest on the threads of this forum.

I would suggest someone gets together with the organisers and gets an agenda together with ideas, you will definitely need a very strong master of cermonies to run the session, also a degree of investment will be needed for the plan if the way forward would be to breakaway.

I agree with Paulie that this is the time - for GSDs in the UK to take that step forward that will bring them into line with the rest of Europe.

I believe on previous threads talk has been about regionlisation and two tier systems, this would have to be formulated into the plan to ensure that shows have a more even spread across the UK.

Also if the decision to breakaway is taken then what about a national advertising campaign the biggest asset in this is either Youtube or Facebook or even Twitter to start a campaign to bring to the public attention and maybe even get some national press coverage regarding the monoply of the KC regarding dogs in the Uk and how they rake in the money without investing in the future.

What is needed is  a complete break away from the K.C. The breed council must do this before 2011 to give them time to establish the new order. We could have our own Breed Council CC's ( with double handling ) and make all our pioneering health checks compulsory, and sort the judging criteria out once and for all ( no committe folk to enter their own shows etc ).

Unfortunately we have to get to the Breed Council annual meeting and put forward candidates to form a new active committe ( this will require some brave people to come forward ) then we have to attend in numbers to vote the new folk on board. Now from what I have witnessed the Big Four kennels won't want to know as usual-so I will start te ball rolling and stand as Chairman. My only request would be that Videx is not involved ( otherwise too many people would be alienated by his crude ways )

pencil: you have written above "(this will require some brave people)"  then later "I will start the ball rolling and stand as chairman".

That is by way the biggest contradiction in terms I have ever read.
